Fuel Sender and switching SA guage clusters

I just finished the fuel, oil, and exhaust systems in my SA to GSL-SE conversion. Now I'm getting into the real guts of the conversion -- the wiring.

As I am putting things together from scratch, I have no interior whatsoever at this time... so I can go crazy with interior wiring without too much trouble.

I am keeping the SA transmission because I like the shifter position, transmission is smoother, and I prefer the older style interior. Due to this fact I'm not swapping dashes entirely.

The sender on the FI tank has 3 wires. now I could easily swap in the older sender with 2 wires, but I am not sure if I should do this. The reason is that there are other sensors and senders that are proprietary to the 13b engine. I am not sure if the older Gauge cluster will be able to read all these signals properly. Is it feasible to use the older, cooler SA guage cluster, or should I go ahead and swap in the GSL-SE cluster? By feasible I mean will my oil pressure guage work, my temperature guage, my Tach and Speedo, and voltmeter?

The front harnesses are entirely different between the 2 cars. Obviously the engine harness from the 13b is completely separate and thus I don't need to worry about this part. The part that concerns the dash is all the accessory wiring... guages, sensors, lights, ignition, fuel pump, starter, etc.

I am not familiar with the SA fuel senders...or the SE ones, but the FB ones were 3 wire. One ground, one for the resistor (float level), and one for the gas tank light that pops on when the gas is low. It may be worth checking out some wiring diagrams.

This may or may not help too: http://www.freewebs.com/84gs/katrina5.html

Shows the sender and prongs, well, the third prong was missing...but if its anything like the SA one, you should be able to use it as long as the Ohm readings are similiar, if its two prong, it sounds like it doesn't have the low fuel idiot light.

Ah, thanks the idiot light... I'm an idiot for not thinking of that lol.

I'll bust out my ohmmeter and check the resistances. I think i'm going to have to check each sensor and harness connector side by side to see all the differences before I make a decision on which to use.

my idiot light is always on regardless of how much gas is in the tank. should i examine the sending unit? my car is basically rust free so i cant see it being too bad.

ill check. but if anyone knows why this it happening plz tell me.
