I have a 1985 RX-7 GSL-SE that started leaking gas out of the fuel rail. The end of the rail that is closest to the front of the car is capped with a bolt that has a plastic cap over the end (pictured). I took the cap off, and found a screw with an o-ring/grommet that was leaking. I went to Lowes and found the best fitting o-ring I could find, however it didn't work. Any suggestions?

Fuel damper,some replace with a bolt. I don't recommend this route,Mazda engineers thought enough to put two on fuel system. Failure more common on 2nd gen cars,not certain can be had new. I'd start a WTB thread in 1st gen classifieds.GL

 

definitely the pulsation dampener. It's leaking right out of the screw on the end...

You can just thread the screw back in, unless you've damaged the 0-ring. These can commonly leak and it will be crucial to repair or replace as you do not want your 7 going up in flames. I may even have a spare if you are unable to repair yours.

 

 

Does anyone know if the 2nd Gen Pulsation Dampener threads are the same as -SE? These aren't a common failure point, but with 33 years on some of them, it's bound to eventually need to be replaced.

Like the other guys, I don't recommend removing it entirely, unless you can't find a replacement. The pairing of the pulsation dampeners; one on the Fuel Pump and the other there on the Rail - is to ensure that your injectors don't take a beating from hydraulic 'hammer' due to the pump pulses. Injectors aren't easy to find these days either, and out of the 5 I sent to RC Engineering about 10 yrs ago, they sent 2 back which could be rebuild and were flow-balanced. Still running on those 2 and now at 224k miles total.

 

Mine is a goner. If you're able to sell me one, that would be awesome! It's my DD, so I've got to get it back up and running as soon as I can...

I ended up getting a new one off eBay. Thanks though. I tried welding a cap onto the old one, just temporarily until I could find one used, but it leaked. Probably for the best

 

86-88 fuel rail is the same I'm fairly sure... Why on earth would you put a USED failure prone part on though? They are available new.
