TN Fuel Pump Short-out Connector

My best guess is a weak fuel pump. I burned 2 up before I realized my fuel tank was rusted out and the fuel sump filter was crystalized.

By the time I had determined what was going on, my latest pump had overheated and "weakened" so to speak.

If I just crank, no start. I've checked the AFM and the voltages spec out. If I short the fuel pump relay and turn the key to "on" for about 15-30 seconds, I get it to start. Shorting the connector makes the pump run, I checked it yesterday.

I'm also not sure why just a simple "crank" with the AFM doing its business WON'T start the car. Something sounds fishy....

Out on the road the car never starves for fuel (maybe I'm not pushing it hard enough! LOL), so the pump "appears" to maintain enough flow to keep the car running.

The total problem stems around letting it sit for about an hour and then there is an obvious fuel flow issue to start.

Has anyone left the connector "shorted"? Does anyone know if this will cause an issue with anything?

Yes, I've got a new (again) fuel pump on my list. They just aren't cheap. I've also cleaned and coated the gas tank.

Thanks!
