Fuel Pump Question
Alright, Im sure this question was asked, but my search feature is not working at all. Everytime I go to it it freezes up. So please bare with me. This should be the last thing I need to replace for a long time, since I basically replaced most other components. Ok Well first off...are all 1st gen. rx7 equiped with an electric fuel pump, or is that bs? I found one for 136...can anyone tell me when I can find a cheaper one somewhere? Do you have anything like a high performance fuel pump or not? Oh yea the car is a 1984 GSL. ANd last question...is it terrible hard to replace a fuel pump? I was told that I have to mess with psi(not even sure how to do that) so is that true and if so is that hard to do? Alright I really appreicate any help i can get. Thanks everyone.

all first gen have electric fuel pump
install is removing a cover, 2 wires, 2 fuel lines, pretty strait forward.
as for psi, what carb are you using, what psi fuel pump,???? lots of variables and not much info provided. if everything is stock and you are replacing with factory spec parts you will not have to mess with psi. fuel pressure regulator regulates psi and is often necessary when using aftermarket carbs and pumps.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
Are you looking to replace a stock pump with a stock pump, or are you going to put in a "high performance"/racing pump? If you're replacing stock with stock, there's no need to adjust fuel pressure. UNLESS you happen to end up buying a pump for a 13B (which will really give you fits... ask me how I know). If you're just replacing it with a new stock unit, just as Midwest says, it's a few bolts, unplugging the old pump, popping the new one in. No big trick, make sure you have the car supported by some jackstands, etc.
If you're looking to replace it with a racing pump like a Holley or what have you, you'll need to install a regular, as well. Most racing pumps come with the regulator, some don't. The good regulators will have a dial and indicate what pressure it's set at, some of the cheaper ones will require you to have a gauge. I have 3 racecars (running), two of them are at 3PSI, one is at 4. I can't tell you advantages or disadvantages either way, but there ought to be a thread somewhere.
Installing an aftermarket pump is a little trickier, as I haven't seen one that would go in easily. The two I've installed I ended up just tack welding some bolts to the underside of the rear shelf (in front of the spare tire bubble) and bolting the thing up there. Since these were racecars, I can't recall off the top of my head if I removed anything before I did that, or if you can use a similar setup on a racecar.
