Fuel Pump Info
Ok heres the deal
Im workin on a 83 GSL,
I have only put 1 aftermarket fuel pump in a car,
(My car Holley blue) I had to send another hot wire to the back cause for some reason the stock wire didnt want to give it juice to kick it on,and its turn off/on with toggle switch..Anyone know why?
Ok question #2 I want to put a pump in that will work off the stock wiring and cut on with ignition for this car im workin on now,
What about the Puralator and Cater pumps?
I want to know what else people are using I need a pump that will push 6-7 PSI,
If you guys know why my pump is wired the way I had to do it,and if you know how to set it to the ignition, then I wil just drop a blue in this car..
Tell me what you think..
What ever pumps you recommend...try to get me model numbers.

this has happened to a few people.
what you want to do is run a relay.
use the original pump wiring to switch the relay and then run some good thick wire from the battery to the relay then to the pump.
that should fix your problem.

The HOLLEY is on MY CAR,
Im looking into diffrent pumps FOR ANOTHER CAR.
One more quieter, less amp draw...I still want to know about the Carters or Puralator.
The Holley question is done with.

Due to the dodgy immoboliser install made by the previous owner I measured under 11 volts at the pump and with the indicators on it would fluctuate down as low as 9.5v because of the crappy factory wiring. The Holley still worked fine as did the Carter. Not sure how much it would hurt the pump output though.
I fixed it by using the existing wires to power a relay and running new 10g cable from the battery. Solid 13v all the time now.

I think what he's asking is if there's anyone out there with experience with carter / purolator / other holley pumps, specifically ones that flow 6-7psi and are quieter than the holley blue?
I'm not a carby dude, I like EFI, but the wisdom I've seen around is that if you want flow, you need juice, so the factory harness may not be adaquite for more powerful pumps which means you're probably going to have to install a relay like the others mention.
Also, mounting location of the pump itself will effect how "loud" it is. If you can mount the pump on a plate and then mount the plate to the car with rubber grommets in the bolt holes you can isolate alot of the noise. (See the project cosmo kramer fuel system thread somewhere around this forum, it's pretty recent for pics of how he did his.)
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you're not going to find any pumps as quiet as stock that will flow more than stock, or work well with the stock wiring. Just wire it right and turn up the radio

Yes I run a Carter Fuel pump and I'm more than happy with it.
I wired it directly into the stock wiring and it kicks over and runs fine... the fuse doesn't get any hotter then with the stock fuel pump.
It's a noisy fuel pump at that, but I mainly don't hear it unless I'm at idle, but than again I have basicly no insulaion in my car.

Like I said before I've tried both Holley and Carter. I much prefer the Carter as it's quieter, has a far better mounting system and just seems to be designed better in general.
dont use a carter pump, not enough volume to feed a big streetport or a bridge, use a mallory pump! there very quiet, less amp draw and the 110 or 140 model flow pleanty... trust me you will love it! use the 110 for the streetport and the 140 for the bridge....
I got a holley red in my stock port if it makes any difference. I ran new wiring to the back using an empty fuse it the stock box (previous owner snatched the stock pump and wiring) its a little loud but with my rb header and strait pipes I dont even notice
