Unhappy fuel pump bad?

My fuel pump is making a high pitch sound, 85 GSL, dont recall it being this noisy, could it be going bad, and dont want to get stranded while driving, if someone has a spare or has upgraded and dont use there oe anymore let me know how much you want for it....

I had a suburau that the fuel pump got loud and I replaced the fuel filter and the noise went away. Have you replaced your filter and try that first? It might be clogged.

+1 on the filter.

Also check your return line and your tank breather. Your pump may be working excesively hard, causing it to whine a little. If it does go bad, I would recomend a low volume Carter and a FPR set to factory preassure. Cheaper than the OEM stuff, unless you can find a used one from a member.

Yeah, I agree with the guys above.

Fuel filters are often overlooked, and for the price (they're like $5) it's worth it to change it often. I do mine yearly, since it's also pretty easy to do.

Barring that solving the problem, think ahead to any potential upgrades you might make in the future. It might be cheaper to grab a stock pump to hold you over, but it might be better to grab an aftermarket one with a fuel pressure regulator and gauge, to set you up for any future carb upgrades.

Post in the Parts For Sale section to see if anyone has a pump they'd be willing to part with, but IMHO, used stock fuel pumps are 20+ yrs old and if you go that route you'll be back again in the near future.

A fuel pump is the type that you should just get a new one, No need to install a 150K mile used pump that is in just as bad a shape as your current one.

Also Advance auto parts has the Holly Blue on sale this month for about 110 with regulator.
