fuel pump.

Am I supposed to hear a clicking sound when I turn the key on for the fuel pump on an 84 SE? If I don;t hear the clicking, is it the relay?

Mike

Mike,

You will hear a clicking sound when you turn the key to the on position. However I don't know if that is the fuel pump relay though.

The fuel pump on the Se does not activate until you start to crank the engine.
What problem are you having?

Hey Doc,

It turns over real fast, but doesn't even attempt to start. The coil wires have spark. When I took the plugs out, I did notice a smell of fuel, but not real strong. The gas is really old, but I did put in a gallon of fresh gas. The enigine fuse is good. What do you think?

Did you verify spark to the plugs, both leading and trailing? Also does the tach move when you are cranking the engine?

I figured it out. It was flooded. I put the pedal to the metal, and she fired.
