Fuel Pressure question, a good one
Ok, I really have a need to know this one but its gonna sound off the wall. Here goes.
Regarding the return fuel line, under normal conditions how much fuel would you expect to bypass the injectors and return to the fuel tank per hour.
Also, knowing that the operating pressure between the pump and the injectors is about 30 psi, how much pressure would you expect to find at the return line at the fuel tank at the worst. Another 30 psi?
How's THAT for a Tech test!

the pump itself will make around the 100PSI,but since you have a regulator at the end of the fuel rail, the injectors will mostly see around the 35-40psi,the rest goes past the regulator and back to the tank. You wont see much if any pressure after the regulator since theres nothing stoping it at the end to cause a pressure.

Much if any pressure at the end of the system as it feeds back into the gas tank.....
So, would you say the psi should be less than 5psi?
Reason for asking is I'm looking to install a fuel flow sensor that was designed for a carburated set up (read low pressure of around 5psi). Trying to figure out if there is anywhere in the EFI fuel supply line I can mount it. Looking to mount the supply sensor between the fuel tank and the pump, looking to mount the return sensor as it feeds back to the fuel tank.
But, key is I don't EVEN want to mount them if there is a chance I'll be creating a fuel leakage situation due to excessive psi stress.
