Fuel Guage or sending unit bad?
Fuel Guage or sending unit bad?
If I check the voltage at the back of the instrument cluster, I get 7 volts (correct after the regulator) I check voltage back at the connector to the sender and get the same 7 volts. Ohms reading .003 at the connector (unplugged from the sender).. With the connector unplugged there is no continuity at the sending unit prongs.. I'm leaning toward the sending unit, but it worked fine when it came out of my parts car... the parts car was an 84 (3 prong sender) and my car is an 83 (2 prong sender). I have the right prongs connected to the two wires.. the third is not connected. I don't think it needs to be, considering the two power prongs are connected.. Any help is appreciated.. Thanks..

If there is no continuity at the sending unit prongs, then that is where the problem is. The senders go bad really easily. When I swapped tanks, i had to swap sending units from my old tank to the new one, and it worked before, but didn't after. I prodded around with a multimeter and managed to repair it using some wire and solder.
