Fuel Filter

Fuel Filter

Is there anything else I need to do to change the fuel filter besides turn off the car, clamp the two hoses on each side of the filter, insert new filter, attach two hoses to each side of filter, and finally unclamping the hoses?

That's pretty much it, outside of chocking the front wheels, raising the rear and getting it safely on stands before crawling under.

Go gentle clamping the hoses so you don't damage them (or just use a catch pan and don't bother clamping them), & changing fuel filter is a good time to check hose condition & plan replacements if they are getting old.

Make sure the filter goes in the right direction - they don't flow well backwards.

No smoking.

stick something in the hose before right after disconnecting the fuel filter line coming from the tank. the gas from the fuel tank side will really rush out so plug that line 1st. then put a plugged line on the old filter. attach the new filter with a plugged line to the gas line from the tank. then remove the old filter, remove the plugged hose from the filter from the fuel tank, and connect to the line going to the engine.

a large think sheet of cardboard on the garage floor is nice to have to absorb the gasoline. so is a bucket of soapy water to rinse off your hands and forearms.

it is a messy job. then be glad you have to do this only every
other year..

My filter is in the engine bay by the carb, so it's really easy to get to. Is there more than one?

Yeah, its under the car in front of the left rear wheel. Pretty easy to get to. I've changed it without jacking the car.

My car didn't have a filter just before the carb, I added one just for fun, I used a clear one so I could see the fuel before it enters the carb(that's actually the main reason I added it)
