fuel/exhaust question please look!

ok i got my 85 rx running and i put on a replacement pipe for the cats, and the stock midpipe, but gas is leaking out of the end of the midpipe!
i want to know if i should turn in or out on the mixture screw?
the gas is flowing while i drive up and down my road not too much but enough to see a line of gas on the road its a thin line. however when it is stopped and left sitting it creates a small puddle under the car!
all help is very appreciated!
thanks JC

I am no expert, but it sounds to me like your needle and seats are leaking too much fuel into the carb and its just not burning fully. Mine did that also until I rebuilt the carb, except mine would shoot about 20 feet out the exhaust pipe.

Ummmm, dude?

Are you sure it's gas, because something would have to be seriously wrong for that to happen....I mean damn, your idle would have to be horrible but I don't see what would keep it from igniting.

Secondaries stuck open could cause this as could stuck needles or stuck floats, etc.

He could have a leading or trailing ignition failure that isnt burning the gas fully as well.

Then I do doubt that its just a mixture problem.

Well the first thing would be, are you sure it's gas? And how much volume are we talking about when it's sitting. The only thing that comes to mind would be a blown coolant seal. The coolant coming out might smell alot like gas and give the kind of volume that you're talking about. How's the level in the radiator? And it would go both ways...does your coolant smell like gas and are there bubbles coming up in the rad while the car is running?

I'd advise you not to smoke in that car.

That's what I was thinking at first, but that wouldn't be enough toleave a visible trail down the road would it? Also it would go away after a few minutes as the car warms up.

sounds like a problem I had with and old POS celeberty that was given to my ex....

It would leak gasoline, and she thought it was from the exhaust, but it was actually from the fuel line right above the exhaust, driping down around it and it just happened to be right at a break in the pipe.....

good luck, dude, I hope it's not that bad either way.

There is no way your car would even run if it was that rich! It's either coolant, moisture or maybe a fuel leak at the carb or one of the fuel lines.

Revhead, thats not totally true. I just started up a rx7 that had been sitting for over a year and it dumped raw fuel out the exhaust and I could keep it running also. It wouldn't keep running unless I kept giving it gas, but it would run while shooting fuel out the muffler and leaking from around the presilencer. I traced it down to bad floats/needles and seats.

That sounds like one hell of a flooding problem.

Maybe I should of said 'it wouldn't idle and barely run.' Netherless, when it's that rich you definately know about it and he said it was running fine so it obviously wasn't the problem.
