fuel delivery/start/carb problem?

just put my newly rebuilt carb on, and it cranked for a while, just like the last one. so i look into the carb, and there is fuel pooling in the throttle bodies. and when i look at the float level glass it appears to just be full of fuel.

are new needles and seats supposed to not work? or is my fuel system to blame. i have some generic electric pump and mallory 4309 fpr. ive been running this set up before. but i did have some problems with it flooding on hot shut downs, now im thinking my fpr isnt stopping the fuel at all, and its just dumping it in. so either it doesnt work correctly or i am an idiot and don't have it installed correctly.

anyway, i un-hooked the fuel feed from the carb, and lightly tapped on the banjo with a soft handled screwdriver. i was able to get to start and run after this however it was very rough. and then it died and i couldnt get it to start again. even after refilling the float bowls.

any input? im off to look at the diagram for my 4309, and sterlingmetalworks.com

this may be a stupid question but just to make sure since there recently was someone who had set the FPR too high. it is within the 2.8-3.5 pressure limit right...or is it a carb besides the nikki.

He's running a Nikki that I gave him last week for rebuild. But he seems to be having the same issues that were present with his previous carb...

Cody, do you have the restrictor in place in the return line? Facing the right way? I think there is also a restrictor in the carbon cannister system that can get clogged and cause flooding after shutdown.

Definitely head over to Sterling's site and see what he has to say...

i was already to his webpage reading up on some stuff, and read that an unregulated aftermarket pump on the nikki will flood it out. then took a look at some diagrams for my fpr, and realized that i had installed it incorrectly...

got it all squared away now. just need to address some other issues. and it seems like my floats may be too high, i want to see how this affects driving how ever. because i know its a big no-no to mess with them. im just afraid i accidentally re-adjusted them when rebuilding the carb.

oh and i also have lung mustard....again.

edit: the quality of the video was much higher before i uploaded it. apparently i dont know how to upload hd vids...

Lung mustard is not an urgent issue, is pretty simple to fix, and I'll help you out with it when you get the car over to my place.

Glad to hear you're making some progress....
