fuel delivery problem

Been trying to get my 81 started but to no avail. I pulled the two fuel lines going to the carb and they are both dry as a bone. I can hear the pump runnign wehn I turn the key on but does that mean it is really pumping??

Any ideas?

(and yes, I do have fresh fuel in the tank )

ya the pump could be bad and still make a running noise, trace the fuel lines back to the tank and make sure there not broken or blocked etc

Well it appears to be a pump problem. I disconnected the line from the tank to the pump and put it into another tank to ensure I was getting fuel. The pump would never pull any fuel out of the fresh tank - pretty much proved my conclusion.

So guess it is off to get a pump!

I'm not totally following you. When you checked the pump against the other fuel tank, did you have the fuel line running through the same filter? If you hear the pump humming, I'd guess it's the filter. I'd still replace the filter before trying a new pump. They're only a couple bucks.

What about the check valve in the fuel return line? Can't a bad check valve cause fuel delivery problems?

The last time I thought I had a pump problem? You guessed it, no fuel in tank. Oh, did I feel stupid.
