Fuel cutoff switch 85 Gsl-se
O.K. so bought this car like a week ago. Runs great looks OK. Needs some body work though no big deal. The guy who owend this car before me installed a fuel pump switch next to were the choke would be on a 12A only this is not a regular cut of switch it acutally it the on off switch for the fuel pump. If i leave it one while the car is OFF it will drain the battery. Was this originally wired to the ignition or was/is there a relay that is supposed to power the pump. anyways anu ingeanous idea as to how to rewire this switch would be great. Or maybe you experts out there might have me leave it as is. Let me know either way... Thanks all

Well because sometimes you just forget little things like turning off that little red switch. Hidden O so nicely to the left of the steering wheel. i just want it to work right without the added switch i guess. Maybe i can re-wire it to the ignition switch somehow... HELP on that one. i just want this function of the car to be automatic. if not i will relocate the switch somewere i will remember it. hate being stranded at wal-mart.

You need to re-wire that thing ASAP. It should have an airflow cut-off switch that disables the fuel pump when the engine is not running. Could be a safety issue.

Well i guess i'll bring the maint/Haynes books with me to work this weekend sense ill be there all weekend with nothing better to do that research the wireing diagrams LMAO.... If any of you have any idea or now the wireing in these cars let me know i would be more than happy to give you a ring and have you learn me something. Im sure that it was ran this way for a reason just dont know if i really really wanna know why. I hate shaddy work. I want a fuel cut off switch but i only want it in the circut to be abil to cut it off on a need to basis. so maybe the switch stay and i find a new way to wire it properly. That sounds nice.. Did i mention that i hate shaddy work maybe i just dont like tring to fiqure out what someone did a decade ago... Im sure this indevour will be fun and ill keep ya'll posted.
One more question stupid one too. Hold on for this one. REX how/were did you get that little plastic cubby below you stereo on you 85 GS i really need something like that. Usually dont they come in stereo install kits or no. Let me know either way if not im just ganna put a plate there with some gauges.

Well I still have'nt fixed the fuel pump yet.. Maybe this coming week. had Loads of fun taking the A/C and power steering out. That was more that enough fun for the week. Not to mention fixing the cd player i guess the Yahoo i bought the car from never removed those little bolt in the cd player that keep you from inserting a cd.. Clown.

First of all the switch doesn't need to have power. All you need to do is tap into the "hot" side of the fuel pump. The wires are below the driver side storage compartment.
There are two wires. One goes to ground and the other side is hot. seperate the wires and then cut the Hot wire (now you have two ends). One end goes to one terminal on the switch and the other end goes to the other side of the switch. Voila! done.
It also acts as a nice theft deterrent as well if you switch it off before you get out.
