FS: Subwoofer Enclosures

I know at first this looks like it belongs in the parts for sale area but it doesnt. a friend and i were thinking of making custom subwoofers enclosures for the rx7....all u would have to do is tell is the subwoofer ur installing and we'll make the enclosure for the set cubic feet that u want it to have......if there are a lot of people interested i think well start making them very soon to have a couple ready to be shipped.

All the enclosures will be made of MDF board and sealed air tight....i just finished making my enclosure and will have pics of it soon to post on the site to show u how they look and i will try to get a db rating so u can tell how hard they hit.......just thought id see how many other 7 owners would be interested...thanks...parker

Where would these enclosures go? Would they replace the storage bin or go somewhere else? I want 2 seperate boxes to mount in front of the taillights. I will have my amprack be between the subs. Subs will be 8" Orion Cobalts. Show some pics of what you got.

the enlcosure is being installed in my 7 today....i already have the subs installed and im finishing the custom amp rack (where the storage bins were)....and itll all be installed and ready for pics to be taken.......

when u talk about in front of the tail lights....are u meaning the actual storage of the hatch or in front the the mounting racks of the lights but where the subs will be facing towards the front of the vehicle......or is it actually going to be an enclosure where the subs face upward towards the hatch glass and the amp is mounted between the 2 subs.....pm me or help me a little on the detail thanks...parker

I think that Ian wants enclosures to fit in the recessions behind the taillights. On one side there is the jack(or was) and on the other there is an empty spot. Correct me if I'm wrong Ian.

Nope, you are correct. I want to still have storage bins and also have enough hatch space to still put my sunroof back there. This way, I still have all function of the original car but still have good sounds.

All the anticipation for that! I thought your were going to make something cool, not a big box. Anyone can make those. You can't even ship those, it would cost like $100 bucks just to ship.

Same here,

I've got a JL Audio 12 that's kind of half-assed in the cubby hole right now, I was wondering if anyone would make any good subby boxes for the rx7

I think I'd also be intersted in buying some enclosures to fit in the same spot that Ian is talking about.

In case you wanted some pics, Max7's the guy who has what we're after. https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...r&pagenumber=1

They are dual 8's afaik. Also FWIW I'd pay Max7 first as he's the guy who came up with the idea, but I guess he's not interested in manufacturing.

alright i understand what everyone is saying as i dont have any trunk space left.....and also as i have noted the setup isnt finished....im stilling adding more to the enclosure to make it a lot more smoother.......

alright as for the speakers that hide behind the carpet....thats very easy to do....but the problem is that they wont have the cubic feet required to function properly......if u want a sub in too small of a box then go for it....i guess thats what someone without knowledge of stereo's vs someone if 7 years would know......now i can make those really really easily...and i can port them as well but i will need the spec's of the subwoofer that u want to install...and i will especially need its cubic feet requirements for a ported box.....

im not trying to thrash anyone for their opinions of my enclosure.....but i built mine for the best performance capable of my subs....and i really believe i reached that b/c my kenwood system hits harder then 2 jl 12w7's with 2 pheonix gold titanium 1400.1 amps that were all installed in my friends professional installed system (350z).....i know that the enclosure is large but it does what its supposed to do....if u want the hidden sub enclosure u can msg on the forum or pm me...give me the detailed specs of the sub and ill try and find the price....some setups will cost more or the same depending on the amount of supplies....trust me they wont be that expensive tho....

im hoping that someone would be interested and if max7 would rather do the making i understand that...but if not u can msg me and ill have it all taken care off....thanks parker

you can get free-air subs that are 8" which eliminates the need for a box at all...

or, you can do what I did (check page 5 I think of my cardomain page in my sig) and still have plenty of boom to hurt your ears and shake stuff loose, as well as have room for the sunroof, or crap to haul to college, or to stuff extra people back there...

i'm not trying to bash you, but be very careful questioning the audiophiliac nature of this forum, there are a lot of guys here that know a lot, and I mean a LOT about stereo systems (more than someone if 7 years experience)

alright maybe i came across a little rude...sorry for that....but as i was trying to state that this is all custom work...and its not nearly finished......in the area below the subs im mounting 2 7" if not bigger monitors.....and im still debating of adding some more speakers back there.....i know that it takes up the entire hatch....but what could u fit back there anyways.....maybe a 15" tv....and then its full......

i can build u a custom enclosure without any problem...and i can put it anywhere that u want it....but if u want it to have a good sound its going to be a little bit more difficult.....if u could hear my system i think u would think thats its too loud for the 7...but thats how i like it......hope this helps mend up any misunderstandings and im not trying to start any verbal debates...thanks...parker

uhhh, hey man check the needed volume of an orion cobalt 8 inch sub. .3 cubes sealed. Most other 8s take anywhere between .2 and .5 sealed at the most. Even if it was ported you would only need MAYBE 1 full cube per side. You could easily do that by making part of the amprack hold some of that space. Stop thinking square and start thinking rectangle.

Ok! Lets start off by saying that your enclosure is quite large, but that has already been determined. For someone with 7 years of experience, you should have used the tire well and fiberglassed the bottom and saved soo much space. But hey, you have the experience. I've only been doing this since I was 18, now I'm 32 and yes I'm MECP certified. People questioned mee too when I first came on this forum a little over a year ago, but I just let my work stand for itself. Check my page and it will blow your install away. But lets go back to the other enclosures, yes the 8's will fit nice back there like Max7's but will take some time to make right. And I can tell you from first hand experience that the bin enclosure hit hard, but you should use an 10" in each unless your 12's can handle an enclosure of around .6 cuft. But I have to say thank you for stepping up to produce enclosures for eveyone. I don't have the time, plus I do not want to tear my 7 apart to make molds for the fiberglassing. So maybe you will save me all the PM's I get about making enclusres for people. I will gladly walk you thru the process I have used to make the enclosures, my domain page has a step by step on the bin enclosures and the tire whell 15".

John

thanks john for being a bit more understanding....also on top of my enclosure tho im going to be putting in monitors and everything....my entire hatch is going to be car audio and visual......also i had thought about the fiberglassing but we didnt want to mess with it b/c of the fact that were fiberglassing right now the front end to be flush with my hood.....also im shaving he door handles and everything so i have a lot more then just the audio set for projects.......i understand that yes the enclosure is large......but i wanted it to be large that way i could add to it very easily...

also i just wanted to mention that ive seen ur setup...and i do like it.....i give u the props on a good install......but i didnt want to have the same setup as u or anyone else....im tryin to make it as unique as possible......thanks for the support and im already looking into these hidden subs.....also i forgot that u were all using 8" subs that arent made by jl audio...thats the only kind of subs ive usually worked with and they require some space.....ill look into it and i should have it worked out here shortly about the dimensions and the port size.....later...parker

not to hijack the thread, but if anybody on the east coast wants a custom job done, I can easily make exactly what I did for my own subs, and it would cost about $150 shipped. or I could do really any other type of install/setup. (my friend and I who did my setup have also worked on jobs for mustangs, civics, vans, impala's, etc etc etc) send me a PM if interested. I am not certified or anything like that, but one of my co-workers did work at tweeter for about 10 years, and he's seen just about every type of setup imaginable and is willing to help me if it was something I couldn't tackle on my own.
