Question Friend's car probs ? :S

ok.. this is stumping me.. His car is an 84 Gsl-se just like mine.. he got it about 10 months ago, i got mine over 14.. It stutters and and loses power very violently past 3k rpm, or when he floors it ... I am thinking spark, or fuel, because its not blowing oil like a blown seal, and runs v well under that rpm.. also, free revving it works well also... under load tho.. its unreal.. my uncle has suggested the timing advance.. but i know v little about this, and can it just be worked loose? he has a new cap and rotor, but i think fuel filter and plugs should be changed.. oh, and when he hits a bump.. for some reason it sputtters out as well.. to me it seems like a loose wire/ connection... or A/F ratio being off.. ??? really could use some help if ppl have had this experience... i did a search and didnt find much..
Otherwise.. MERRY CHRISTMAS, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Daryl

im taking a wild guess here, but..... possibly the ignitors are loose? that could maybe explain the hitting bumps, but im not sure they just wouldnt come completely off. not sure.

Could be a carb problem. I would check over the entire fuel supply.

Yelp its EFI , actually to get technical, its EGI (Electronic gas Injection)

You say if you sit in neutral you could redline it no problem?

Id say 5 and 6th port actuatoers, my 88 vert had the opposite problem. It wouldnt redline for **** in nuetral but under load it ran fine.

I greased up the actuaters and moved them manually in and out a few times, no more problems.

its not the actuators. hes got the pineapple sleeves wired shut.. same as me, in fact, damn near all the mods i have he did similarly because they worked well
we replaced the fuel filter again, cleaned the plugs, it runs much better now, but still on bumps and when just warmed up to normal operating temps, it runs like *** and sputters.. I am thinking of looking at his injectors or the fuel pump/connections. To me, these are the only feasible problems. thx for the help tho, any more suggestions would be great.

I'm thinking maybe he has a leaky injector or something. Did you pull the plugs and check the color of them? Either that or the fuel pump might not be going into high pressure mode. IIRC the fuel pump is supposed to run at a lower pressure under normal driving and you are on the pedal it's supposed to run at a higher pressure. Something to think about.
Does he still have all the emissions controls on it?
