I got to check my car. It was a great link. I found out it was clean as I expected, and I am the third owner.

Cool, thanks for the link

I actually found a problem with my report. Here's what carfax lists for owners of my 84 GSL-SE:

Known Owners: Date: Location:
1st owner No data No data
2nd owner 07/10/2002 New York

I know for fact that I'm the third owner, not the second. I was with the second owner, my father, when he bought it from the first owner in 1991. It lists me as the second owner on 07/10/02, which is untrue.

I don't know any way of getting around this, unfortunately. Just be aware that even carfax is only so good, I guess.

My other vehicles came out as I expected them to.

Thanks! Im the 4th owner of my car. It looks like the only reason it was sold was due to failed emissions tests. It was sold to one guy, but it then failed 4 emissions tests, and then sold 5 months to the day after it was bought. Then, it failed some more emissions tests. Then, I finally got it after it never ran (most likely) after 8/29/2001. I got it and it had been doomed to sit in a junk yard with a carbon locked engine. After I tore the engine apart, it had a broken apex seal and a chunk missing out of a rotor . Oh well, shes all better now .

Third owner, a big gap in regsitration though. 9 years and 60 thousand miles. How strange.

I checked on my former '82, since my '79 doesn't have the proper VIN. My old car was a salvage title! It was totaled in 1994 and then re-titled in 1996. I had no idea, though it makes sense now that I think about it. My bumper never did line up right. Oh well, in Saskatchewan, the car had to pass inspection before being re-certified, so I know that it was fixed properly.

Theres all kinds of missing info in those car fax reports, on my 85 it was missing 2 vehicle records, thats 2 owners, but the mileage all lined up, but whos to say that person #1 bought it new drove it a while, person #2 bought it, rolled the ododmeter back quite a ways, and then drove it till a few thousand miles past that and then sold it to person #3 (me). Right? Who can really tell?
