The car is light and likes to be somewhat driven like a hot rod, but I don’t like to do that (especially on a new battery pack).

Range 25 Miles?!? Are they ******* kidding? I really hope that's a typo or something.
If I wanted to go 25 miles, I don't buy/build an electric car... I take my *** to Wal*Mart and buy a cheap *** bike...
Everywhere I go is at least 25 miles away. Except the gas station... There are days that I've put well over 100 miles on a car...

I think it's pretty cool, although the whole "it's a new battery pack, I don't know what it will do" smells like the usual "it's broke, won't run" crap.

Oh it goes Brap Brap. Just at a very very rapid quiet pace.
I've driven an Electric Porsche 944 conversion. It generated about 100HP. The acceleration was so incredable though due to the electric motors' tourquey nature. And it kinda had this cool jetsons sound. Too bad there was no trunk. It was converted to a Battery Pack.

If it was in Canada, I'd buy it this second and put a real battery pack in it...A 120V lead-acid pack is pretty much good for nothing. Modern Li-Polymer batteries could give it a decent 300 mile range or so, with performance significantly above a stock 1st gen...
Edit...Especially the PbA batteries they chose. The APC batteries are optimized for large capacity, but the moment you start pulling heavy currents the Peukert effect takes it's toll and battery capacity drops dramatically. A pack made up of Optima Yellow tops should be good for a range of about 50 miles. If the controller was upgraded (the Curtis 1221B is pretty wussy at only 400A) to something like the Zilla Z2K (good for 2000A) and the voltage increased above 156V, then that car is good for 14s in the 1/4. Beefing up the motor and increasing the voltage to around 300 or so and you'd be in the 12s.
Edit again...Of course at this point, you would tear the Mazda drivetrain to shreds as the ADC 9 incher will push several thousand ft-LBs of torque on launch...
