Exclamation Found 83 GSL w/ Engine & Trans! $100!

Well,

Today was good and bad at the same time. I went to the local autoparts store to talk to the guy who might be providing the donor car for my auto to 5spd swap. The car he has is an 83 GSL 5 spd. The body is rusted out but I believe the rest of the car is a-ok. I don't know the mileage yet. He tried to put the engine and trans from the 83 into a 79. Needles to say the trans didn't fit right so he gave up. He didn't know that the trans was different in a 79 than an 83. So I asked him how much he wanted for all of the parts that I would need to swap it over.

He said, and I quote, "One hundred bucks." I said, "For everything for the swap? I thought he meant just the trans. He replied, "No, for the whole car." I about fell on the floor. I was expecting to pay a bunch just for the parts, not pay next to nothing for the entire donor car.

So to make a long story short I'm supposed to be going to look at the car tomorrow. Hopefully it isn't a total pile. I think it will be good enough to at least grab some parts off of. Only problem is, my parents DO NOT want a junk car sitting around. So I think I'm gonna put my rex in storage. Part the junker out, taking anything I might possibly need. Then get rid of it, and bring the Rickshaw back out of storage.

My only question is WHAT DO YOU DO WITH A JUNK RX-7 BODY AFTER YOU PULL THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION AND ANYTHING ELSE WORTH KEEPING? Can you sell just the shell to a partsyard, or just give it to them? Or will I have to sell the body to the local recycling center? I have never junked a car before so I am at a loss of what to do with the parts car once I've stripped it. Will a junkyard even take it?

I am so close to getting the deal of my life here all I have to do is shuffle some Mazdas around to keep my parents happy. I had to pull some major strings just to get them to say yes to my first Rx-7. My dad about crapped when I told him I was gonna buy a parts car.

You may get stuck paying a junkyard to take the car because of body condition and the lack of trans. You will also have to arragne it to get there since it probably isnt driveable right now and def. wont be after you get the trans out

I can relate on the parent thing

if that has rear disc braks i'll take it off your hands when you're done pulling parts. I work at a dealership, and go to a school so i can get rid of it after i myself am done with it. I am dead serious. Just e-mail me, or actually i shall e-mail you, and that shall work.

In some states, junkyards won't take a car without a title. If he doesn't have a title to give you, check the laws first.

before you buy it, research the junkyards = who will take it after your done and who won't, if it will cost you for them to take it. towing...etc. it's all phone work.
