Well, heres a short version of the full story, because its just too long. I and my buddy were working on his 300zx TT one day, and this dude stops by in a yellow 80s MR2 and asks what kind of car it is (has a stillen front bumper) and then asks if we want to see his "crazy rotaries". So I say "sure" and we go down the street to his house. Its at the end of a dead end lane, and out in the ghetto...
So, this guy has an 85 widebody that is street ported with webbers, and some other mods, and claims to have made the wide body himself and did the body work all himself. He said that he had a mold made back in the 80's and all this other stuff, and told us all about the car, and his uncle, and la de da...
So, he also has a turbo laser, and the MR2, and a 68 vette vert in the garage. Then he takes us over to this car cover that looks like nothing special, and tells us "this is the serious ****, you have never seen anything like this in your life" So he pulls the cover off and there is a 79 SA Rex there, kind of a greenish blue color, with the Targa pannel installed, and I believe no sunroof.
I give it a once over, and it looks just like a plain 79 with the targa pannel, just in really decent shape bodywise, except for the flat tires. He opens up the door and I peak at the odo, only 64k on her. Theres a rollbar installed, and the interior is super clean. In the dash, there is a oil pressure gauge, and a BOOST gauge. He opens the hood and shows us the motor.
Its a 12A, that someone installed a blowthrough turbo on. Might be a rayjay unit, or some other, I couldnt tell you. I didnt get a good look at the turbo, but it was larger. (This was over a year ago). It had a 4 barrel setup, but had a carb. plate under the carb, and thats where the turbo outlet ran boost too, not through a carb. hat, so I guess its not really "blow through" Looked like someone tried to install a aftermarket ignition system, I think it was a MSD, and a rev limiter.
Oil feed and retun lines looked kind of iffy, I believe one of them was run directly into the oil fiter!? The car was pretty clean, but obviously needed some attention. The dude claimed he owned if for a while, but never once had the chance to drive it. He said he was willing to sell it.
Thing is, this guy is crazy. Outside of his house, and all around the garage are boxes and boxes of beer cases, like at least 50 or more. He has no furniture, just a TV setting on top of some old 70's speaker. He has like 4, maybe more cats, and just sits around drinking beer and popping pills all day. He frequents a local auto parts store, and just kind of jacks around there and his house. I've been looking for a first gen, and been thinking maybe I can offer this dude a case of beer or 2 and some cash for this SA, haha?
What do ya'll think?
