are flywheels interchangable?

can i take a flywheel off an 85 and put it onto an 82 or an ealier year motor? cuz im doing an engine swap right now, and its an 85 but i got a 82 motor with a freshrebuild and the flywheels are different, so it wont match up. so please i need to know if i can just change the flywheel. and how do you get the damn things off they have such a huge nut in the middle its just incredible.

thanks,
kyle

Check out these web pages and FAQ's:

Identifying flywheels

I can't fiind the other explination I was looking for, but basically the rotors, flywheel and front counterweight are all a matched set. There are breaks in the years. I think the 79-80 were the same and the 81-82 were the same and the 83-85 (all 12A) are the same. Within those groups you can interchange....

The rotor weights are close and sometimes you can get away with changing just the flywheel and the front counterweight, but I would avoid that if possible.

Maybe you can change the flywheel with a different counter-weight, but I'm not sure.

And yes the nut is really tight
