flywheel nut
I'm replacing the clutch on my 82 rex, i need to know what size the nut is that holds the flywheel on. Also purchased a non running 84 GSL for parts, any ideas on how to wire up the new power windows and the rear window wiper. Would there be any conflicts in switching the rear ends, the GSL has disc brakes and probadly LSD, from the 84 to the 82. Thanks in advance.

The flywheel nut is 54mm or 2 1/8". The 54mm is hard to find, but you can get a 2 1/8" socket from Sears for about $24 (last time I checked). The rear should swap without any problem. You will need the driveshaft, e-brake cables, etc. off of the '84 to make it work (shouldn't be a problem if you have the whole car). There were several changes to the car (especially the interior) for 84/85. The power windows/rear wiper will work from the 84, but you may need to get at least the power windows switches (and maybe wiring) from an 81-83 with PW.

thanks, got the nut off, is the flywheel simply pressed on a tapered shaft which just requires a little hammering to remove the flywheel or did i miss something ?

Yes, it is just a tapered fit. Sometimes they are a bit hard to get off. Search around a bit, there are a couple techniques people use. A common one is to put the nut partially on and hit the outer edge of the flywheel with a soft mallet. The vibration should knock it loose. I personally, just used a flywheel puller on mine.

I used one of these when I removed my flywheel:

bolt it on use a small steel plate over the end of the output shaft to tighten against, crank it down and a few taps with a hammer and it will pop off. Best of all, you return the tool and get your money back, can't beat it.
