Flywheel........is lighter better

Hey

Looks like a me need a tranny...........But I am going to try a few things first..........

If I have it pulled..........should I invest in a new lighter flywheel along with a new clutch?

I plan a putting a few additional power mods on my SE
but not that much........

Thanks

Jim

I agree that a light weight steel flywheel will help with thottle response, but will hurt you with off the line power. I went from a stock flywheel to a CF lightweight steel flywheel and notice great thottle response, but since the rotary engine is already lacking torque. You give a lot of low end power in a drag race.

hey jim, i can hook you up with good clutch. let me know. having a lighter flywheel willl allow your engine to rev fast. but for the downside, it will require higher RPM for the car to move specially on a stop and go LA traffic. another factor is how your car will be driven. drag, autox etc etc. for drag, a heavier flwyheel is better. for others, lighter flywheel to get out of tight turns.

lighter is better up to a point. generally 15-17 lbs for the street. anything lighter may yield a rough idle ... not a gurantee, but it does happen. the key is keeping the clutch streetable.

I have an aluminum flywheel, and I love it! RB exhaust, and a SterlingCarb. But I can certainly say that everytime I get into the Rx-7, I drive the ever-livin' **** outta her!
Driving style and application are what you need to concider. Be completely honest with yourself about it. It's one of those mods that you'll either love, or hate, but is costly and such a friggin headache to "un"do!
