flow tech muffler?

I'm just wondering if a flow tech muffler would be a good idea for a midpipe muffler, i'm wanting to put it in place of my main cat... (the type with no offset inlets and outlets) inbetween the header and the cat-back would i get much backpressure from it? i'm looking to buy a non-glass packed type... i'm not sure what they're packed in they just say "no glass to melt" i'll probably use it with the straight through 3A junk muffler i have now but i don't know if i'd loose much from the backpressure of a pre-muffler. so here's where i need suggestions. and a presilencer is out of the question, way too much money.
