float measurement

I've got a weber 48 ida that's dumping fuel like a ****. I've got the proper jets etc according to the Racing Beat weber chart. From what I've read, I believe that my floats are too high. I keep finding a reference to the float measurement tool but can't find one anywhere in cyberspace. The closest that I've come is a part number #98014.100. from this pdf:
http://www.webernorthamerica.com/pdf...structions.pdf

It calls for a 5.5 - 6mm distance between the top of the carb body and the top of the float.

What I was wondering is...is there a way to measure this accurately without the actual tool and with the carb still on the mani?

From the diagram, the actual tool looks simple enough. It would be great if someone had a printable scan of this that I could use my cricket to cut out of thick paperboard.
