First track day with the FB

After a couple of months spending my weekends restoring /preparing the FB, it finally survived its first track day!

Its by far the slowest car i got to the track for now, but also probably the most rewarding to drive!

Car was a blast, handling and balance was spot on, i just had to adjust to the rotary power band and i really think a diff gearing change would be beneficial.

No mechanical issues at all, which was a bit of a surprise.

The car is a '81 GS with low miles, stock port never rebuilt 12A, and heres a summary of my winter build :

NEW FRONT BRAKES ROTORS + HAWK HP PLUS PADS + BRAKE DUCTS
STOCK REAR DRUM BRAKES
GSL LSD DIFFERENTIAL
SCALE TRUE COILOVERS
NEW WHEEL BEARINGS
ALL NEW STEERING BUSHINGS, LINKS AND TIE RODS
RB FRONT SWAY BAR
TTT PANHARD BAR
TTT REAR PARALEL LINKS
RB HEADERS/EXHAUST
ALUMINIUM RADIATOR + DUAL FANS
ALUMINIUM OIL COOLER
TTT HARNESS BAR
OMP DELETE, RUNNING 50:1 PREMIX
RB HOLLEY INTAKE MANIFOLD
ACES EFI THROTTLE BODY KIT
TACH SIGNAL ADAPTER FOR EFI CONVERSION
EFI SURGE TANK
AGM BATTERY RELOCATED BEHIND PASSENGER SEAT
105A GM ALTERNATOR
1" WHEEL SPACERS
5 POINT HARNESS
DRIVER SEAT NRG FRP-310
WHITELINE FRONT STRUT TOWER BRACE
RE71RS 205-50-15 TIRES

Nice work! I can not wait to finish my FC, your engine sounds great. The rear gear and trans are nice here, too. Have fun and be safe out there.

Running 50:1 pre-mix doesn't cause any plug fouling? I eventually would like to convert to the EFI setup. Nice job!

No plug fouling but you dont need to run 50:1 on a street car.

100:1 is often recommended for street use with the OMP delete.

How are you enjoying the aces efi? Witch one did you go with? I was just looking at the snipers and the likes and seen that one pop up as well. Is it capable of being tuned via laptop? You car looks great and sounds good to! I also run that same tire and have no complaints at all they really like the heat in em and will stick like glue.

I got the Killshot 1 unit on sale and honestly for the price, its nice.
I also have a sniper 1 on my '66 mustang so i can compare them.

The quality of the aces throttle body seems good, and i really like to have the remote ecu out of the engine bay, not like the integrated ecu of the sniper that is prone to interferences...

One thing that i learned after i bought it, is that the system is expecting a V8 tach signal by default and there is no way to change it, so i had to buy a signal converter for that.

My unit came with the 7" dashboard which is nice and responsive.

The big thing is the tuning, you can do part of it on the handheld but the advance stuff is in their laptop software, which you can download on their site, the laptop adapter is included with the kit.

The software part is probably the only thing i dont like and i wish i had the holley software instead.
Theres a lot of parameters you can tune, which is good but the terminology is not the same as what you would see on major brands and it get confusing, there is also no way to overlap the self learning table on the main VE table easily, which is annoying...

You can bring a sniper to most tuners and they will tune it for you but i am honestly not sure about this unit...

I got mine to run decently, especially on the track which is WOT most of the times, but its far from perfect yet for street use, im still working on it...

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the information! I also mainly track my car and the nikki just isn't doing it for me, i fix one issue then its another. Ive been contemplating 48 ida or a tbi copy of a 48 ida and just switch to efi. I have a microtech lt-9 that I picked up with a parts car years back. And various efi pumps lines ect that I bet I could cobble it together. I just love being the guy out on track that is the only one carbed, but it's at a cost of a few seconds I know it.

But as I type this I think im just going to make the jump to efi just for the adaptability when I toss this half bridge. Just what to go with haha.

But as you said about the sniper system eazy to find a tuner and alot of documentation of them on our cars but a bit more costly.

Yeah i even found a facebook group dedicated rotary engines running snipers, lots of good infos there that also applies to other tbi units like the Aces and others...

Good luck with whatever route you take my friend!
