First gen appriciation thoughts

What is wrong with people overpaying for a great example of an first generation RX-7? perhaps I should say a premium price. The design is now in it's 24th year. almost a quarter century. This car has everything it takes to make it a true classic. The RX-7 has a sleek design that still looks good. It does not look overly dated like cars of it's day (280z anyone) I can not count hou many times I have heard " Oh, you have a RX-7? I had one of those in college back in the day. Damn those things flew!" There we have the beginings of nostalgia. That is the most important fact. People want to preserve the good times they had. My Grandfather was president of the local classic car club and owns a 1950 Caddy and a 1964 1/4 Mustang convertable. He has a good eye on what would be collectable. The FB has it all, a sporty 2 seater with timeles styling. A strong racing heritage and pages of accolades in motoring magazines. It is up to us, the current owners to keep them on the road. As top condition FB's become more rare the price may should come up. A 57 t-bird sold for a few hundered dollars in the late sixtys... something to remember.

thats right... but keep it under your hat! if(when?) first gens become "collectibles"... they will start costing too much!

I've thought about this before. rx7s are perfect for the automotive enthusiast right now. right now, price-wise, they are just "Old Cars". and thats perfect for poor students like me. it almost makes up for the gas it swills at ungodly rates.

The first gens are like the older "muscle" cars when I was a kid. They are easy to work on, and a lot of kick for your buck. When I was a kid it was sixty's vintage chevelles and mustangs. Now the kids are picking up the old SA's and FB's. I am well with that.

few hundred dollars in the late sixties = few thousand dollars now.

I agree, at some point, the FB will become "rare". Naturally, that would increase value.

But, all the mechanical secondaries, removed A/C, removed stereo, removed carpet, removed emissions, etc....will always = few hundred dollar car.

Anyways, Moses Lake, WA.........is that the place with like 11 little water towers, all saying Moses Lake on them? Small town? I think I just saw some black kid, on an MTV show "Made" where he decided to become a professional bull rider.........instead of play basketball like his 2 older brothers.

Same place? Am I making sense? Do you understand the words.........that are coming out of my mouth???

As I was in the garage today trying to get the Mound running, I thought, "ya know, these cars (first gens) are probably the most unique, best selling sports car ever made."

Who else can say that?

Right on.

that is the weirdest thing I have heard. It could be the same. I don't watch MTV nor do I give a damn about bull riding.

you know, the funny thing is they are allready considered antiques in japan. There have been quite a few stories of GSL-SE's being stolen and being sent back to japan as a collectors item.

Lets hope our cars dont get too rare.

280z looks dated??? I think not! I think the 280z is one of the best looking sports cars made before 1990. The 240z is better looking, but both are great examples of classic beauty in car design. I *gasp* think the early Z cars look way better than the 1st gen RX-7!! They have a much more classic sports car look to them. Dont get me wrong, I love the 7, and I prefer it because its powered by 2 triangles , but you cannot deny the early Z cars rocked

I liked the 300z and the 240 and 260 z's but the 280 from the early 80's has got to go.

yea you ever go on yahoo japan?

in there auctions most people will put sa22 vintage, or medival times lol

but i know for a fact the 1st gen 7 will never be in as high demand in japan as a rust free mint AE86. they sell for an un-godly amount out there.

The car you're thinking of is the 280ZX (1979 - 1984). It's a different car than the 280Z, which was discontinued in 1978.

the first gen might not be a classic, but it should be!even tho it is not a classic, some people out there believe they should charge more now then they used to.iv'e noticed that i can't get them as cheap as i used to.my first couple of 1st gens i paid 600,450,600.that was only about 5 or 6 years ago.average price then was about 1000-1500.now it's more like 3000.
somebody believes that there worth more.i'm one of those people and i believe they should be worth more.there like no other!!!!!!!!!!

FB's are true in their classic sports car form and are fun to drive. Even though I own an FC, I will never consider it a classic. The body shape is larger and more angled than curved. Plus the FC driving experience is softer and heavier than the FB's.

I plan on owning an FB in the future too but its so hard to find rust free and clean FB's.

the first gen is one of the coolest cars out there no question. Its extremely unique, and very clean looking. I could go on for hours about how much i love mine, but I won't. spinning triangles forever!!!

I'm addicted, I have 2 right now. And even tho neither of them are completly driveable. I still love them, There is no other car I enjoy working on more than a 1st gen. I would love to find an absolutly mint one, and just keep it as a weekend toy. It's scary to think about how the number of them lowers daily...
