First gen on a $3k budget(suggestions)
I'm going to be getting close to $3000 come September from excess Financial Aid,and I was looking at three choices of car for a new daily driver. 1. AW11 MR2 with a 20 valve 4age swap. Only problem with this one,is the price of the 20 valve 4age. 2. 240z With an ITB L28e or a carbed L28. Problem with this car would be the limits the engine has,and the price to build the engine. I don't believe this engine is close to being capable of hitting 200rwhp,but if it is,I know it can't go much more with out Forced Induction. 3. First gen with a 13b carb swap. I know for a fact I can get this car runing with the 13b under the $3k price range. My goal with my daily is to atleast hit 13's,which I know for a fact,a street port 13b carb is capable of. I'm not sure if I can say the same for the other two choices I was thinking about. I'm basiclly looking for what you guys should suggest I do about the 13b. Should I buy one thats in far condition,or get my own built from parts? I know I read somewhere that certain year rotars have a higher compression, and weigh less. I also know I need a certain year rotar housing(intake/exhaust ports) in order to achieve my goal. I think its called a 4 port, whichever was the one in the Cosmo/Rx-3. I still need suggestions on which carb to run,and I know I'm going to be going with the RB exhaust system. I'm not factoring looks into this price, because its all going to be spent on the cars drivetrain and engine. My goal for the total car will be a Mariah Widebody kit with some nice centerline rims and yellow exterior/black interior, along with a "Killer Bee" inspired engine. (thus the yellow/black colors

Wow, a big wall of words.
Were the 13B 4 port? Or just the 12A?
You'll surely get a 12A car for cheaper, and you wont have to convert them to carbed, because they're already carbed! Yay!

well, if you wanna get a carbed 13b in a first gen to run 13's...... i feel you're lookin at alot of money on a great built engine. i know of turboed 13b's that don't hit that. if you're lookin for 13's i would seriously look for a turboII swapped first gen. already done that somebody needs to get rid of. i'm sure there are 13 second n/a 13b's around. but the cost to get it done or even buy one...... well too much for me. good luck.

Actually,a member of this board ran a 12 with a similiar set-up. It was like a 12.92,but that tells me the car is very capable of running 13's. I'm gonna see if I can talk to him more about his set-up,but I don't think he has acess to a comp till he moves to Florida. Also a side note,I sometimes forget to start new paraghraps, but atleast I use periods.
By the way,I'd be buying a first gen with a blown engine and swapping in a 13b,not getting a pre-done swap.

Nothing WRONG with the big wall of words. It's like a challenge
I'm pretty sure my 83 with a 12A can run 13s when it's running again.
Oh, wait, we're not talking about 0-60? Geez. . . .

As I'm reading, its a 4 port 13b. Does anyone have the link that list the compression and weight of the various rotars? I also remember hearing someone saying you can build a 13b 4 port using the 12a side housings. I could be misunderstanding what exactly they meant, but here's hoping I'm not.
