yo i posted this on another thred but i thought it was relivent to here too. so read up man
and gl
i did a engine swap. i have a 84 gsl-se. the engine was shot. i put a 88 engine into it. it's taken me the hole month to get it running. i had to keep my 84 so that made a few problems.
first you have the monting of the engine. to solve that you have to do some parts swaping.
-swap front covers so the 88 engine had the 84 cover.
-swap oil pans b/c the frame and streeeting was in the way.
-swap the oil filters b/c the pan wouldn't fit on unless you did.
then the ecu caused problems with ignition and fuel. so that ment
-i had to run a distributor instead of a coil only ignition system.
-that ment i had to find vacum for the timing advance. so i disabled the EGR and used that vacum. it took some creative hosing to work.
-then i had the problem of going from 2 fuel injectors to 4 injectors. i had to swap out fuel rails and plug up the secondary injectors.
-i had to swap to the 84 injectors
-i had to make a intake piece to connect the air filter to the intake. i used a ducting size converter off the air filter and then used dryer hose to connect the 2 ends. thats temp untill i get the costum bent/size cone filter intake.
-then i after all that i had to swap out the exhaust manifolds to mkae the factor exhaust bolt up
-i then had to disable the 84 egr controls
-threw out the air pump and stuff that goes with it.
-and last but not least, i had to custom bend the linkage that runs from the oil lines on the front cover to the throttle linkage.
it was a major project. thee biggest pain was figuring out the vacum lines and switches. i had to run bassically a custom vacum setup.
but if this is what you're gona do, i wish you good luck. it took me a long tim to do it, and i learned a lot. i bassically have a 88 block and intake with 84 everything else.
pm me if you need help with it

my friend and i get to use the lift and all the equipment for all of friday and saturday. we're shooting to get it done in that amount of time. i think we have a good chance! (not including tuning of the carb!) that will be done on the dyno! WOOHOO! what should i set the timing to? i'll search but if anyone has a quick answer it would be great. thanks for all your help! i may have more questions and i'll take pics of the swap as it's being done!
