IL a few questions (carb and fuel hoses) pics included

Alright, after messing with the mixture and air valves as per the tutorial on the sterling site, i can get it idling at a proper rpm and such, and it even idles on it's own fine (15 minutes and it barely stuttered, after warming it up). still dies when i put it in gear though. i got the car with the rat's nest fairly well removed and capped, but a few things still raise some questions. areas in question highlighted in red.

the "air vent hose" (according to the service manual) here isn't plugged, or even have a hose on it. should it be plugged, or should it go somewhere?

the oil vent "thing" here. should it go somewhere/plugged, or what?

what is this even? again, should it be plugged or what?

and the big one: this is what the fuel filter (on the fuel line that goes to the carb) looks like when it is running (right side is from gas tank, left side is to carb). i've seen it mentioned that it should be at around half full, not like it is there (i've marked the fuel level on it in red). also, air bubbles come out of that crack between the actual filter and the thing it sits on (the blue drawing would be the bubbles), should this be happening?
in addition, the manual shows this fuel hose without a filter at all. is it supposed to be there?
and finally, how necessary is the check valve on the fuel return hose (not pictured), as i don't have one

pardon the quality of the pictures, i've only got my phone available right now.

thanks in advance.

Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here-- I have a SA-- It has the basic rat's nest...

Connect unknown A to B, yes?

A should be a vac. source, think of B as a cam or crank vent on a piston engine... Neither should be affecting driveability (other than a huge vac. leak, yes?)

As far as the not-running in gear issue, is your car a manual trans. car or a auto? If it's the prior, in neutral does it die if you stab the gas, or activate the choke?

it's a manual, and i remembered that it hasn't died when i hit the gas since i adjusted the valves on the carb, and actually runs decently now, although a different problem occurred. seemingly unrelated. and i was wrong about the check valve, i do have one, just didn't notice it, i'm dumb

A- Sterling says plug it since the bowl vents inside the airhorn anyways, seems to make no difference on mine if it's plugged or not (I plugged it since he noted it) Everyone else seems to say leave it open however.

B- Case vent, for now don't worry about it it's not going to make it run bad. Search mustard when you get a chance.

C- clutch slave cyl bleeder screw. They look like that don't worry about it.

D- Old style cleanable element inline fuel filter, kind of course micron rating for an only fuel filter. I'd stick a regular 3/8" push on inline filter in there instead of that. But unless it's let a bunch of crap in your carb that's not your problem

So good luck, if you rev it up by hand with the air cleaner open can you see the accelerator pump jets squirting? If it's just idling there can you see fuel misting though the 2 venturies? Can you see the float levels through the glass windows... are they in the middle roughly?

Fantastic, thank you. as for the fuel filter, i have the one in the back between the pump and the tank, so i was curious to see if this one is redundant or necessary. as you mentioned, it is pretty coarse and there's a tiny bit of brown particles getting through it as it is (i really need a new gas tank), so i guess i'll put a disposable one on there instead.

as an addendum, the previous owner did not route the fuel lines by the pump through the cutoff valve in the back, and i have since put it back in the loop. is it a big deal?
