What would a guy have to do to mate a FD3S trans and clutch to a 12A?

well, the tranny will bolt to the engine, but your going to need a turbo size flywheel, which means buying the correct 12a rear counterweight and then buying a Lightweight turbo flywheel, and then a turbo clutch kit. that should be it to get the engine and trans together, but you'll also need a new driveshaft.

 

And build a trans brace.
FD clutch is pull type also.

a TII transmission would be much simpler and the differences between the 2 turbo transmissions is negligible.

 

The FD speedo drive is electrical as well.

 

+1, for all that work, i'd be tempted by the Rx8 6 speed, its got decent gearing...
