Fd or Miata seats in my Fb

Well I was looking at the seats in a Miata the other day, and damn those are nice.

What I was wanting to know is has anyone done this swap? and if so how much modification would it take and would it be worth it??

They are similar. Some Miata seats have built in speakers in the headrests too.

The FD Seats fit with plenty of room in the FB. However, the seat rails have to be modified, and brackets need to be made.

BTW, FC seats are a direct bolt on replacement.

Oh man that would be sweet to have my vert seats in my 85. They support so much better.. But I could imagine the weight gain, them bastards are heavy!

Yes, but then look under the hood of your car and remember that you are making more than enough power. So a little weight can't hurt.

FD sits are no good, especially the leather ones. There is no suppport and you slide all over the place in the sit.

TII seats grip even better. As long as they aren't leather.

I'm a fan of having the 1gen seats reworked. I took my 79 seats to a local shop when I lived in Ohio (they were in very sad shape), and I must say, after being refinished (the shop built them up again -- the old foam was falling apart -- and of course recovered them) they are some of the nicest seats I've had in my cars. Just my opinion.

Of course, I agree that the Miata seats are very nice to hehehe.

I have never known mazda to make the best seats. the one in my FD are torn to crap on the drivers side (much like most of the other ones) and when we had our 1st gen we had a stock seat that was built up for racing, it was nice but the damn roll bar kept it from moving back.

True FC seats are a direct bolt in....I'm using MX-3 seats at this time as they have good side bolsters, and grippy seat material....You do have to add spacers to the tight side of the driver's seat, but I really like 'em.

Miata seats will fit, but you will have to swap the rails. The rails for the Miata are different than the ones in the RX-7. (at least on an 85) I know I have both cars and thought about swapping then at one point.

I used to own a 93 miata, and I have been thinking about doing the same thing (I had the seats with the speakers in the headrests). I loved the feel of the miata seats, but was wondering, how would you wire the speakers to work with the Rex? just have the wires from the front speakers run up to the headrests? or make a 6 speaker deal with two up front, two in the headrests, and two in the back?

Yea you can just run a parralell speaker splice to the headrest speakers. We did this with some Fiero seats into my buddies Corolla.

i have leather fd seats in my first gen.. have no problem with them. i think that they grip fairly well, and i donot slide at all (well, this is also coming from some mustang seats)

I have customized FD seats in my FB, they used to be cloth, but they're artificial leather now. The colors (black/red) match my car. I think they are nicer then the FC seats I used to have (FC are better then FB's though). I feel very well about them.
The rails were a pain in the *** though...

My seats

Well, at this moment this is the only pic I have of them. The picture doesn't really do them justice though.
Because of the bad light they look orange, but the red is actually very nice, and comes close to the paint of the car.
Because my car is at the paintshop, I can't take new pics now. But I promise I'll post some in like two weeks, ok?

Is that a back seat in your FB?? I know they exist but I haven't seen one until now. Is it a useful backseat or is it there to lower insurance?
