FC fusible link in FB....??

FC fusible link in FB....??

I read up on this mod and attempted this evening as I had one old fusible link that was rigged together from the PO. After installing the new link the car had no juice. It seems like the slot between the two legs of the fusible link isn't deep enough. The contacts weren't on enough to make the connection. Do you normally have to modify the link to make this mod work? Maybe make the slot a bit deeper with a hack saw blade which would allow the link to seat deeper on the contacts? Thanks for your thoughts on this one.

This is how i did mine. There is another post that has been ongoing and i posted in there too.

This is what you start with. I already put the block fuses in there years ago, and they just fit right in. Some people have sanded the edges of the top to get a better fit but i never had to do that with mine.

If you have an fc fuse block the installation is much simpler than the old thread makes it sound. This is probably due to most of the links and pics being dead.

The next step is to go to the auto parts store and pick up a 60A block fuse with the blades already in it. This will replace the 80A fuse which is already in the "main" circuit of the fc fuse block. I dont have a pic of that at the moment but you will be able to see what im talking about if you inspect the fc fuse block.

Replace the 80A fuse with the 60A fuse, and connect a new feed line to the battery positive terminal, then to the side of the fuse block that has a rod running along the inside. Make sure to use a decent sized wire. Mine is from a stereo installation kit.

Then you use a jewelers screwdriver or something similar to de-pin that brown connector on the fb. Be careful, as the connector is brittle and prone to breaking if you use too much force. I did this one wire at a time to keep track of where i was at.

After the wire has been freed from the fb connector, you will need to pull the blades out of the fc fuse block with a pair of pliers. Be careful not to twist them too much so that you can save them for later (i tend to save everything just in case i need it for other projects, or reverting back to stock) and slide the wires from the fb in to the newly opened circuit. If they just want to slide right back out, use a jewelers screw driver to push out the tab so that it will grab again.

*note* for the "main" wire on the fb you have a few options for placement. I opted to use the stock fc locations but really it can be put anywhere. If you are using the stock location, it can get a bit tricky as the box fuse has the blades built in. What i did here was slip it under the blade just a bit, and used a small flat washer under the head of the bolt to distribute more clamping force and help make a larger contact area. You could also make a groove in the spade connector so that it slips around the bolt, which is my next project...not necessary, but it looks cleaner.

If you have the fc bracket for the fuse block you can mount it where you want it and bend the bracket so that the fuse block sits where you want it. Otherwise you can do what i did and just bolt it to the fender.

After that it should look like this

It should work just fine. The connectors i used were a little longer than i was hoping for but its what i had on hand. I will be sealing them up to prevent accidental contact using shrink tubing.
