FB TII Tranny Guys

Can someone tell me why people use an old school bell housing with a TII transmission? I have the opportunity to get one and I am building an all motor 13b P-port over the winter and will be using a TII. Does it help in positioning the shifter in the right place? Do you still use a TII flywheel, clutch and starter? Does it work with any block combo or only 12a and old school 13bs?

What is the advantage please?

Thanks

I'd like to know too because I don't think it works. The shifter ends up at a funny tilt because the old school ribcases were more tilted than the T2 cases. I don't know if that makes sense. They (Mazda) had to make room for the starter on the older ones, so they rotated the gearbox section (compared to the older twin dizzy trannies which had a top mounted starter and a straight/non-tilted case). This tilt is less necessary on the T2 units because the clutch and ring gear is larger, pushing the starter out further from the gearbox.

Whenever I read about someone wanting to put an old school bellhousing on a T2 gearbox, it makes me laugh. Am I bad person? Or misinformed?

i may be a noob with this but my understanding on this when i was thinking off doing it was that the starters were all the same and you have to change the drive shaft and yoke for the TII tranny to work, and i think the shift is in the same spot just at a different angle cause i think i measure that before when i was going to put a TII tranny with my 12a

hehe but what do i know

old school bell housing you can use non turbo flywheel and clutch and starter. It makes a TII swap easier if you already have light weight flywheel and a new starter.

angle is different but not enough to matter,

You do still need a new drive shaft.
