FB JDM Back Seat option...
Ok, I did a search in this board and the archive and the best thing I found was some Brit's pics of his rear seats from 2007. My question is for the folk who have this option in their car and specifically for the people who installed it after the fact. IOW, they installed it into a US-bound car that was not ever supposed to see the option.
I bought this thing about two years ago and have just now got around to unwrapping it. Can anyone tell me if this is, indeed, the correct 1stgen rear seat or did the guy sell me a 2ndgen unit?
I know, I know...I should have opened it way back when but I didn't. It's in pretty good shape, so if it's the wrong piece, I can always sell it. If the UK guy is reading this, you had a Tweety yellow FB....but the bracing under the seat was red and look custom tailored to fit the seat in. Was that factory or done by a fabrication shop in the UK? Here's your pic.
Thanks in advance for all who can help in this matter.

Hmmm...it looks different to all the Aussie spec ones.
On ours the rear section bolts in, is secured in the upright position with locking latches, and when released, pivots so that it folds down onto the top of the bottom section.
On ours the bottom section has 2 "U" shaped lugs at the front that slip into a slot on the chassis rail at the front of the bottom section (like in the UK pic) and can be secured using a 10mm bolt (not always necessary)
Yours doesn't seem to have the bolt in section for the rear/top part. And the bottom securing section seems to a "rod" at the front not the "U" shaped section.
Unfortunately, I have no idea what a FC rear seat looks like...so I can't really tell you if you got a FC version by mistake.
Sorry.

I don't know what that rear seat is from, but I can tell you 100% it isn't a factory 1st gen one.
The seat in the yellow car that was red, is definitely a genuine 1st gen seat.

I agree, its not a first gen seat. The seat you have resembles the pic he sent you, but both seats are different in a few ways; color, shape and the fact that there is what looks like a hook in the center of the seat that sits above the tranny tunnel (not on a first gen seat).

There are quite a few variation for the first gen rears seats but the model you have IS for a first gen and it will fit in your car just fine. I have the same one installed on my car and I will post some pictures when I find my camera.
My question for you is, did the seller include any of the hardware like the bolts and washers?
The only thing special about the bracing in the yellow car is that its painted red. But the rear seats in that car are different from yours.

That doesn't look like my back seats either-mines a 1983 S2. I think the yellow one you're talking about (owned by a chap called Mark) is an S3 I don't know if that is of any significance. What series are you wanting to put them in?

Actually, that piece is going to get butchered...I plan on doing only ONE rear seat to leave a spot for a hidden install of the amplifiers and capacitors for the re-install of the stereo system. I'm not having anymore kids, so I just need three spots in the RX-7 to take the kids to school two times a week. Considering the fabrication that may be involved, I'm thinking about the comments I read in the older thread where I got that pic from where someone described being able to legally install a child's car seat into the bin.
Still, a three seater RX-7 would certainly be a conversation piece at the next rotary meet.
This is for the 1983 GS I have and I'll look for a PN of some sort when it warms up...got snow and 35 degrees F here in Arlington today. Puxatawney Phil wasn't lying.

and now you know that this is not the factory seat. The big bolt hole on the side you are refering to is the stock seatbelt mounting location. Hopefully your child no longer requires a car seat because it is impossible to get one into that particular rear seat. the true JDM ones are a little bit deeper and will just barely allow a car seat to fit. althoug the person in the front seat loses almost all leg room. If you start making holes in your floor board remember to check what is underneath first and make sure that you use some kind of undercoating to protect the area from rust after words.

its supposed to do that
That seat is a Pacific Avatar aftermarket seat for an FB. I had the same one several years ago that i sold to a fellow forum member. I Installed it into my FB for ~ a year and had to make some mods for it to bolt in securely. I drilled and used fender washers to secure the seat belt bolt through the body. If you need further advice feel free to PM me.

eta. does that seat have a cracked spot on the center of the top?

Add a nice little middle console and it should be set. I'll take pics as the fabrication unfolds.
At least it fits back there...side panel fabrication is also going to be necessary.
