I should know this, but I have a 79 that needs a transplant. It is stock as can be... I have a donor engine from a 84. 12a of course. There is no budget for a RB exhaust. Will the 84 play nice with the thermal reactor?

 

yes it will work fine, either use a header or stock exhaust manifold and a straight pipe. use the fb dizzy and alternator, front brake/strut assembly, will require a some tweaking for it work but not a big deal. for future use, save the fb tranny, clutch/brake pedal assembly along with the brake booster and clutch master/slave cylinder n lines

 

Wait? What? Where are you getting all this from. I just need to swap the engine. 12a to 12a. I will be using all SA parts with a FB "keg" The question is I believe that the 12a's that came with a thermal reactor had two small ports near the exhaust ports. I think the FB 12a's had EGR.. Since a new racing beat exhaust is not in the cards... I was trying to find out if I will have issues with the exhaust systems. I would love for you to explain why a engine swap requires redoing the hydraulic lines and strut assemblies ? I honestly do appreciate your reply, but it seems we have two different views on where this is going.

 

Not sure where he got all that from either. I'm running an '83 12a in my '80. I did use a header and got rid of the thermal reactor. Looks like if you switch the exhaust and ignition over from your old engine to your new one and use a later ('81-84) intake manifold and gasket, it will work fine, from what I've seen.
