FB Camping Trip - Back by popular demand (weather problem!!!)

Okay...here's the scoop...

During Rotorfest, forum members were looking for a place to stay overnight and so I reserved a campsite nearby. You can read all about it here The evening turned out GREAT! You can see pictures from it here Everyone wanted to do it again...and so I've been getting PM's asking when is the next camp outing.

Well...I've gauged interest on those that attended before and they all seem to be available for the weekend of Aug 6th. The campsite is located at Stokes State Forest in New Jersey. So I'm inviting you guys so we can meet up, have a 2 day cookout, play some football, throw some frisbee's <--spelling?> and just have a really cool time. The date is flexible if there are enough people that want to change it.

The campsite is $50/night...so an entire weekend is $100 that I will put up to get the reservation. Once everyone arrives we can square up on the bill. There are grills and campfire pits already on the campsite. Bathrooms and showers are within walking distance and they are CLEAN :) The campsite fits 50 people VERY comfortably...check out the pix and you'll see what i mean! AND we can park our cars on the campgrounds.

This is a family orientated camptrip so bring your cupholders (woops! ) I mean wives/girlfriends. There are farmers markets and grocery stores nearby to get our food for the 2 days. You'll need camping gear - tent, sleeping bag, flashlight...etc

So how about it? Want to go? Got Questions? Lemme know! :bigthumb:

bizarro 07-22-04 10:41 AM

BTW...

When I sent the PM some of you who attended the first or wanted to attend before didn't have your PM turned on. Those of you are:

otakurx
lt dan
enigma32

So don't think I've forgotten about you guys :)

LOL. I wish!

OtakuRX 07-22-04 11:25 AM

Man I can't do it that weekend, other wise I would be all for it. That was an awesome time last time.

bizarro 07-22-04 11:38 AM

Like I said...the date is flexible...name a date that you can do it and maybe others will find it more convenient :)

bizarro 07-22-04 02:11 PM

:rlaugh:

Tom 07-22-04 02:47 PM

Actually, that weekend might be great for us. We start our camping/vacation on Aug. 9. No biggie to swing up there, camp a few days, then head back south/west to Blackwater Falls/Spruce Knob WV.

82transam 07-22-04 10:10 PM

so far that date looks ok for me as well. Time went pretty fast last time just sitting around bullshiting, but how are we gonna keep occupied for a whole weekend?

inittab 07-23-04 10:54 AM

My "cupholder" is busy and can't make it. :(

Tom 07-23-04 10:57 AM

Just got some news here at the office (like 10 minutes ago) looks like we have a review coming up that week. I might have to postpone my vacation..

bizarro 07-23-04 11:25 AM

so does that mean you can't make it to the camp trip? will we need to change the date?

Sterling 07-23-04 11:44 AM

Later is better for me, actually, just because I have a bit of work to finish. But I'll go whenever!
Maybe now Otaku will be able to come and show off his new paint job. ;)

bizarro 07-23-04 01:34 PM

Okay...so would Aug 13th be better for everyone? Let me know because I have to call in the reservation soon. We need a date to stick to...

Tom?
Sterling?
82Transam?
OtakuRX?
EVERYONE?

I need feedback please :)

OtakuRX 07-23-04 01:41 PM

Can't do it then, that is the weekend my GF is coming up here. Any time after that would be perfect tho. And I would happily come and show off the new paint and smooth running car.

Just give me a date and I will clear it w/ my store manager.

John64 07-23-04 02:24 PM

I might be able to do either dates. Finalize it and I will let you know. I might just be there for only one night, new baby and all.

John

82transam 07-23-04 02:40 PM

If we end up doing it the 6th I can make it, but I'll have to change a few things around. The 13th would be better. I'm not sure I really want to use the whole weekend for it though, I might be a one nighter as well. We'll see.

Tom 07-23-04 03:52 PM

I really won't know my schedule until next week. We just found out about this review today. It's a standard safety and soundness review by the Fed banking regulators. Typically officers of the bank need to be present. They will be in on Aug 9, which means I may be in the office that weekend shredding (ooops), I mean 'reviewing' files.

bizarro 07-23-04 07:21 PM

Okay...so by a show of bumps who feels the 13th would be an easier date? for me, either are fine...

John64 07-23-04 08:09 PM

Bump

Dom 07-23-04 08:51 PM

That's a hefty charge for a campsite. The rates chart says $15 per night for a tent.

Tom 07-23-04 08:55 PM

This is a group site. $50 a night flat charge. Put as many people/tents as you can fit.

Sterling 07-23-04 10:39 PM

Anytime.

jutny 07-26-04 10:29 AM

well my schedule is flexible... i'll have to see if the GF can get off from work, if she cant, it'll be a hard choice between camping out with ya'll, or going up to rochester and partying w/ my friends and having a lot of sex ;).

(btw, that wasnt sarcastic, it will be a hard choice... i LOVE camping)

enigma32 07-26-04 02:14 PM

Any weekend is the same to me :-)
So I'll have to wait and see what date this pans out to and then see what I can do...
See, the *best* for me would be once school is back, 'cause then I wouldn't have to work weekends...., but I don't suppose any of you want to do that :-)

Not sure why my PM didn't seem to work... I received the message and responded...
Perhaps the new board changes have messed something up... I'll have to look into it...

jutny 07-26-04 03:28 PM

enigma, where are you in NY?.... i'm near Binghamton. We might get together sometime.

bizarro 07-26-04 08:08 PM

Okay...so its looking more like Aug 13th then.

So far here's the list of people going or maybe going:

Bizarro (me! :)) +1
Inittab +1
82Transam
John64
Jutny +1
Enigma32
Sterling +1
LtDan
Polak +1
Tom +3

My questions:

Lets start making a list on what people can bring...

Everyone will need their own chairs and sleeping bags. Some people can share tent space so start listing the amount of people that can fit in your tents...last time we had NO problem with space...some even slept outside!

I can bring paper plates, cups, paper towels and a cooler with ice.
I'm sure Sterling would bring the metal forks and knives again ;)

Here's a list on what else is needed for the group:

Cooking pots (minus underwear inside ;))
Cooking utensils
Portable gas grill? <--who has one?
Lamps or Lanterns
Electric chainsaw (unless we decide to buy the wood again)
Off Bug spray
Football
Frisbee
Jarts

If anyone wants to bring some special foods to share with the group thats cool too...we'll probably get burgers and hotdogs and beans again at the grocery store when we arrive.

Anyone else please post so we can confirm on who's attending...even you guys on the fence about going or not please post...we can probably answer some questions that will help your decision like:

No its not $100 per person to camp...its $100 for 2 nights for the entire group.

John64 07-26-04 08:57 PM

Jarts! Wow I have not heard that in awhile. I thought they were banned for being too dangerous, I mean I never ment to hit anyone.
I don't have much of the camping stuff but a sleeping bag, but I like sleeping outdoors, so I do not need a tent(Unless rain) I can bring all the fun stuff (footballs etc..) and a cooler or two with drinks- did you say no boose??????????????

P.S. if anyone has JARTS, please bring them, brings back memories of my youth. I'm still only 32, but hey.

Who's bringing all the tools to work on the cars?

I will bring my Dig Camera and Camcorder too. Maybe even the portable printer if people want pics right away. Let me know.

John

Oh yeah. Lets go for the 13th.

Actually I would, but it seems everone else's mind is made up. Oh well, guess i'm still in. I'll be sleeping under the stars so like last time I'll be packing light. Are we gonna cook everything at the site like last time or go out to a diner for a few meals (gets my vote) just something to consider.

bizarro 07-26-04 10:10 PM

i'm bringing a cooler and i was hoping for a second one so now we are set on coolers and fun stuff

what is still needed:

Cooking pots (minus the underwear:))
Cooking utensils
Portable gas grill? <--who has one?
Lamps or Lanterns
Electric chainsaw (unless we decide to buy the wood again)
Off Bug spray
Jarts (for those that don't know what jarts is they were also called lawn darts)
http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/5053.html

Any takers?

enigma32 07-26-04 10:46 PM

jutny...
I'm in the Syracuse area- not too far away... we could definitely get together sometime in the fall

bizzaro- Checked my PMs... seem to work... oh well...

I'll have to see what the schedule is like on the weekend of the 13th but I think I heard that's a busy weekend.... *shrugs* Sometime.........

what do you plan on plugging it into? duh :D

John64 07-27-04 07:24 PM

Wow, I really did'nt think they banned the Jarts!
I'm fired up for the camping!!!
11/2 hour drive in the 7, I like the excuess to drive.

John

eddierotary 07-27-04 07:31 PM

ill probably go but no promises. i wanna be part of it but im just too dam buzy latelly plus is like 6+ hours from my house to NJ so i still thinking about it

Tom 07-29-04 01:06 AM

Well- If I can go I can certainly haul a veritable shitload of gear in the truck. Big Bertha, 2nd tent, 2 cots, air mattress, lantern, sleeping bags, FIREWOOD (dry stuff- not that lazy damp shit from the store).. Blah blah blah..

But one thing.. I will not guarantee that the cookware will be undergarment free. It depends on whatever else I have to pack. Be warned.

bizarro 08-02-04 09:54 AM

Okay!...aug 13th is coming up and i'll be calling today to make the reservations...

We still need others to volunteer to bring some stuff....(read above)

Any questions?

Sterling 08-02-04 12:47 PM

I'll post what I can bring tonight.
Bizzaro, we may have to arrange lunch the next weeken for me to deliver your fendr and bumperskin, not sure. I may not have much room for any extra stuff.
I would like to bring my "pop-up" canopy tent.

I'll make a "practice pack" and see.

82transam 08-02-04 03:55 PM

I think I've asked this a few times now, but no one is listening. What does everyone plan on doing to pass the time for 2 1/2 days? Sitting around bsing worked last time, but I doubt it will the whole time. Theres plenty of stuff to go see, we could go sightseeing. High point is nearby and very nice to visit. Also there is mountain creek a water park of sorts we could go to as well. Just suggestions, there also plenty else we can go see.

Tom 08-02-04 04:03 PM

Whatever is fine with me. Hiking, canoeing, football, frisbee.....British Bulldog **ducks tomatoes and produce hurled at my direction**

bizarro 08-02-04 07:17 PM

i'm up for anything as well...hiking sounds good to me

sterling...we can meet up...just let me know

can you guys check the list and let us all know what anyone can bring?

bizarro 08-03-04 10:29 AM

potential weather problem!!!

i checked weather.com and accuweather.com for the weekend of the 13th and its not looking good at all...

so here are the questions...

1. Do we risk it? (i say no because the weather here in NJ has been pretty crazy lately with constant flash floods)

2. Should we reschedule for sometime in the fall? (cooler weather and the trees look really nice!)

Tom 08-03-04 11:23 AM

You believe the weather forcasts that far out?
Plus- a good ol' flash flood never hurt anything. Mudball, any one? :D

bizarro 08-05-04 07:25 AM

bump for those who haven't read the latest news on this.

maybe we can do it in September? or October? what do you guys think?

1stand3rd 08-05-04 08:19 AM

Weekend of Aug 13 is not good for me, but I'm keeping an eye on thread.

Tom 08-05-04 10:03 AM

The weather reports look rather ambiguous that far out.. Has this been officially cancelled?

bizarro 08-05-04 10:29 AM

this is what i've been watching...

Accuweather.com
&
Weather.com

They both report that starting the 10th there will be chances of rain or thunderstorms...and it doesn't end till after the 13th :(

The way the weather has been here lately with massive floods and thunderstorms I wouldn't want to risk it...I know it would suck if it turns out to be a really nice weekend but since people are driving from far away I would want the weather to be a little better.

These past few weeks in NJ has not been good...constant rain, constant thunderstorms, constant floods even in non-floodzone areas! Anyone from the NJ area would be able to confirm this.

I'm thinking that resceduling during the fall, when the weather is cooler and more predictable, would be a better option for everyone. BUT, if we get enough people that will want to risk the rain then chime in and let me know...and soon since the date is coming up!

inittab 08-05-04 10:36 AM

The way the weather's been in NJ lately, I'd be most concerned if they predicted sunny weather. :p: Those weather guys are never right. But..... the weather has pretty much sucked for the past month or so. :(

A fall camping trip sounds good to me.

jutny 08-05-04 10:49 AM

well as it turns out, i wouldnt be able to make it to this one anyway, so if you re-schedule, i have no problem with that. Bummer though.
