If you want all out quickest,Im betting itd be someone with a strict racecar.Something stripped down and pumped up,not really usable as an everyday streetcar.
Im sure 680RWHP12A is plenty quick,10's I believe,not sure if hes streetlegal-ish!;-)

Me personally,I run about in the mid 12's with a ported 13BT S5 TII setup.About 300hp,fully streetworthy, daily driven, full interior. Not the quickest of all,by far Im sure, but shes very well rounded and fun to drive in all situations.

There are several Gen1s which are street legal and achieve low 10 second 1/4 mile runs. A typical one would be AJC 13B.

Track only get down to the 8 second mark

According to the thread 'The Unoffical RX-7 Performance List' which is a bit outdated, AJC13B is at the top of the list with 10.3216 seconds 133.25mph. It was street legal and complete internally. From the outside it looked totally stock apart from 17" rims.

Mine's the fastest. Went from one of the highest appraised, nicest GSL-SEs you'd ever see to crumpled heap of metal in less than 4 seconds!

ajc13b and mantis have an unfair advantage. All it has to do is run to be street legal in florida. There are no emmisiions laws....

1985 s model

I ran a 12.57@113 on a stockport s5 TII with a carb and 60 compressor upgraded stock turbo using the stock 13" wheels and 205 series victoracers.

i dont think any of roberts are Truly street legal.

The only times posted by Robert built engines are seconds off the pace.

Unless you can get sub 10.5 second runs in street legal non stripped Gen 1 you are not serious but just playing around with a local hotrod.

The latest good car is Freknu, 10.4 seconds 137mph. Its a daily driver complete with a good Alpine audio system. Its a 84 with 87 ported engine and TO4/66 turbo

The fastest totally stock gen 1 model came with a 1/4 time of 15.2 seconds, some good drivers got this down to sub15 fully stock, tuned but without modifications. With full mods some of these 12A engined cars got down to mid 11.5 seconds.

But to go faster you have to install a Gen 2-3 engine, but then can it really be classed as a Gen 1. When does a funny car start?

As the original question was mods, times and power I have just obtained those for Freknu, currently aiming for sub 10 second in a street legal car.

Series 4 TII engine, ported and dowelled.
TO4/66 turbo, turbosmart wastegate,12A and Indy1750 injectors, Bosch motorsport fuel pump
MicrotechMTX8 ecu, 3" mandrel bent exhaust
TII gearbox, four puck clutch, Hilix 30 spline diff 4.3:1
Lowered 1 1/2 inches with 17"x7" wheels, 8" Mickey T slicks for runs, road 205-235/45

Still being developed but best time to date 10.4 seconds 137mph. The chassis dyno result was 386kw@7000rpm which is 518rwhp.

This shows what can be done to a Gen1 by a good engine tuner,

My one and only time at the track with my car was
12.6 at 120, but crappy 60 foot times (2.3's!!), missed 4th.
That was right before my clutch exploded and ruined my
tranny and rear plate.

I still have to learn to drive my car at the track.
That was on a stock engine, with a carb, stock rear, regular pump gas (93 octane),
and only 17 psi. I have very little experience with this car at the track.

Now I have:
Streetported engine, Haltech E6K, Ford 8.8 rear, and Race Gas, and much more boost.
Hopefully I will get much more practice in drag racing at the track, as it is very, very
different from the street.

In full street trim, with A/C, power steering, Stereo, subs, etc.
I am hoping for a low 11, with a high mph. To not beat the car up too much.

To dip into the 10's, I'd probably need full slicks and to beat the
gears down hard.

E.T is something that I don't care to much about, since my car is street driven
99% of it's time. If I get a high MPH, I would be more pleased than a low E.T.

My IT car hit 142 at the end of the straight at RRR. Stock block/port, stock intake, stock carb, stock body. It's a hoot to drive!

your car was definatly not street legal if the RS setups arn't since thats basically the setup you had....LOL

as far as who has fastest streetcar , well it depends on your idea of what a streetcar really is..
the fastest streetcar that passes smog legally.... no faster than a factory time slip is all your going to get..
now the fastest streetcar in my book is anything goes if youv'e got the ***** to drive it on the street!! my buddy occasionally drives his camero(on drag radials it went 7.60@180+ mph!) on the street and believe me it dosn't pass smog, but its legally registered!!LOL
