exhaust rumbles when down shifting

Can anyone tell me why my exhaust rumbles ( or almost sounds like a back fire) ??? When I am driving in 3rd gear (mostly) I let off the gas and the exhaust starts rumbling. I think it has something to do with the pressure in the exhaust. I don't know....the exhaust system is after- market and in new condition. Any ideas why????? thanks.....cjf

If I don't get a backfire on high RPM deceleration, I get a candle lit out the back..... Which is just as cool... lol...
