exhaust questions

I noticed a big power loss the other day, it gets worse the higher the rpms get. So i suspected it was a cloged cat. I looked at it after a drive, and it was red hot right in front of the cat. I think this means its cloged, but does anybody else have any ideas.

start the car and go to the rear and put a towel (it may bun your hand) in front of the muffler's tips and have someone rev the car. it should blow the towel around quite a bit. if it doesn't move much or there isn't much coming out of the muffler, your cat is prob clogged. usually red in the exhaust means clogged, esp the cat.

thanks, the test worked. The towel didnt do anything. now i know it is the exhaust, and that explains why it revs so slow and stuff.

revving slow and power-loss can be the cat...which in your case it probably is. But every RX7 I've ever owned could get the exhaust glowing without much problem.

the cat sounds like the problem. if you can get it off, you'll know 100%!!! you may have to cut it off.... but unless you live in an evil emissions state, a header and a good exh. sounds like a good fix...
