Exhaust port

Can anyone tell me what the oblong shaped exhaust port does, the one just above between the standard ports. Can I plug this up? Neither the inlet manifold or the exhaust manifold cover this. What do I do with it. I am running a 48 IDA and a tuned lenth exhaust manifold.
Any help gratefully received.

its just to keep the intake from icing over. you dont need it. just put you some aluminum foil inside of it like a cup. then fill it with quick steal or JB weld. problem solved.

Thanks for the quick reply, I was beginning to wonder why the engine was so noisy! HA! HA! We have a product called milliput which is like a thick paste that hardens like a rock, as you suggest I could line the base of the port with foil to keep the stuff away from anything important & just fill it.
Thanks for your help.

your exhaust manifold will plug you ex-port, dont need to plugged with nothing, if you rebuilding this engine does port goes on the inside , facing the center plate.

The stock manifold probably did at one time. No 12a gasket available round here so have used a 13b cut in half. Exhaust manifold is homemade using stainless plate & thick walled tube and unfortunately does not cover this port..(initially unknown to me when I installed the engine) The engine is fitted to my '72 beetle and runs great, I have yet to sort the exhaust side, just got something temporary for now, no room for anything fancy so am thinking of using a stainless motorbike can as long as its not too loud. Anyone else tried this? Any recommendations?
