Exhaust Leak... I think

Do any of you know how to diagnose an exhaust leak? I was thinking about pouring ATF down the carb and let it smoke real good, then very quickly plug the exhaust in the back, thus creating pressure and letting the smoke come out of the leak. This would require 3 people though... 1 to hit the gas, 1 to plug the exhaust, and 1 to look for the leak.

The car sounds really shitty right now when I step on the gas in a lower gear.

If you have a leak, you can tell right away. Just turn the car on and get under it. if you here noise any where near but the mufler, than you probably have a leak. Its has happened on my car. There are there spots where the pipes connect, see if any of the bolts are loose and go from there. Oh and you might need new gaskets for were the pipes connect. Good luck

You rev the car up (by another person) let it come back down to idle and listen for a pop pop coming from the exhaust , when you think you found somewhere about where it is, drape a semi wet THICK towell over it and rev it again. DO NOT LEAVE THE towel onthere for longer than a couple of seconds unless you like a nice fire and marshmellow roast..

When I was trying to find my exhaust leak I wrapped duct tape around were I though it was and started the car I let it idle for a few seconds and turn it off. The exhaust will burn a slit were the leek is.
