Do ya gotta pass emissions? If not, ditch it.

Illinois don't have no emissions? Shucks. I was about to go to Urbana Champaign for college, but didn't get into their engineering program (top tier). I would've LOVED to zoom around in a smog-exempt rotary...

Happy polluting! I mean rotoring of course.

Option #1) http://www.rx7.com/cgi-local/1catalog.cgi?cat=4&part=2
Cheaper, but don't gain as much since the stock manifold is retained.

Option #2) http://www.mazdatrix.com/r-8.htm
Header and Pre-sliencer is the way to go IMO.

Yeah go straight pipe
unless you are worried about noise you might want a presilencer rb has great ones!

I'd go with the full racing beat exhaust if you have the money. I have it on my 1983 GSL and it is awesome. It removes the cat, puts a presilencer in. Removing the cat will give you some horsepower, especially since it's probably a little clogged on a 20 year old car.

With the stock exh manny and stuff, a straight pipe wont be that loud. www.testpipe.com like $30. But I'd suggest you gut the precats if they are not already hollow.

Or you could stick a pipe through your cat and weld it in thats what i did so if a cop pulls you over and takes a look its still there but actually its a straight piped exhaust!!!
