Exhaust

I'm kinda new to this rotary engine thing. Resently bought an 85 RX 7, runs good but noticed today the exhaust from the thermal reactor to about 12 inches is glowing red hot.

Pull your cats off and gut them, because they are stopped up. Then invest in a good exhaust system.

Yeah, like on my bro's '84 GSL-SE, the guts of the first monolithic cat got blown into the 2nd mono cat. He had a big exhaust leak between the manifold and the first cat, so the exhaust at least had some place to go. His cats never got red hot, but after he replaced them all, his power improved and the exhaust was quieter.

So pull off your cats and look into them. Gut 'em if you want, unless you have to worry about emissions.

Speaking of exhausts, do any of you SA owners still have a stock exhaust? Did you remove the air pump and ACV but keep the thermal ractor and heat exhanger? I need to know because I don't want a glowing heat exchanger (if that's even possible).
