Evidence of a missing rear seat

close up - they'll just like the buckles in the '82 GLC I blew up years ago.

I didn't see the other thread, so I'm kind of posting blind here.

But that seems a very strange place for the belts to be attached. I don't see how they would work. On my stock back-seat, the belt attaching pieces are much shorter. If you look at the second pic you posted, my belts attach at about the point of the yellow dot, that is inside the loop of red wire.

They go up from there through a hole in seat. I don't understand if yours would come over the top of the seat, or go down and then come up again through the hole.

Bye,

I'm thinking that it might've been part of a dealer-installed package, because those buckles are definitely early '80s Mazda equipment. Maybe here in the States some dealer mechanic just guessed on where they should be mounted.

One thing I mentioned in the other post was that the backseat-equiped 1st gens I've seen have also been automatics. As my manual trans car is not very original (an 82 with an 84/85 12a & 84/85 wiring harness WTF?) I don't have very much history on it. I know it came to me from Ohio. Maybe I'll Carfax the VIN someday.

I see that you haven't removed the stock wiring to the stereo amps.

Yeah, I'm leaving as much of the wiring in as possible because I'm electrically dyslexic. It's going to be fun re-assembling the car after the bodywork & painting stage because I got the car without a dash, so there's mysterious loose wires everywhere.
