Estevans Rotary Resurrection rebulid *PICS*

Heres the story,
The jspec TII in my SE took a dump and lost compression in the rear rotor due to me running some cheap A$$ gas!! All my fault!!!
So I was on the quest to get a rebuild or find a good condition repalcement engine. I ended up buying a blow S5 TII short block from RRTEC. Then having it sent to Kevin at Rotary Resurrection for a streetport and rebuild.
Thanks again RRTEC for shipping the engine out to Rotary Resurrection for me.
Finally thanks to Kevin for the great rebuild!!!

The engine fired up on its thrid try and has been running great since. I have about 250 miles on it so far.
I highly recommend Kevin!!

Heres some pics of tear down

well then - looks good. I've heard good things of Kevin too...

Post some pics up of the car as well. What boost are you going to run after the break-in (500 or so on used housings should be fine for boosting)...

Someday I MIGHT put a 13BT in the 5 letter, dunno though...

Yeah, Kevin does good stuff and is very straight forward!

Looking to run about 12-14 psi on 93 pump gas.

Not sure why all the foam. Kevin said it was a big mess but on a good note he said the rotor housings were in great condition!

looked like coolant and oil mix to me. Heavy duty. I changed a head gasket on a ranger before that was like oatmeal soup inside.

this is why i WONT run cheap gas in anything i own.

a buddy of mine has a modded turbo protege. he has some special knock sensor in it that shows him whenever hes detonating. he never saw it light up until one day he accidently put cheap gas in it. he said it was going off like crazy until he got better gas in her.

would cheap gas be 87 octane or just from bad stations? im trying to find a good line on some 83 octane like what they used to use in the rx7 race cars. less detonation more boost higher horsepower.

cheaper gas would be just lower octane levels, which is what you should always be running in a Forced Induction application. On the other side NA on our cars appear to like the cheaper stuff.

You can tell by looking can you? If the wear is within spec it's better not to lap them so you retain the nitriding. Lapping also shortens the black considerably so you then have to play around with spacers to get the end float right.

I beg to differ. All the turbo cars I know wouldn't dare run anything like 87, rotary or piston.

I think you got you words wrong here, cause you're saying that both the turbo and N/A cars like the cheap, lower octane gas.

Obviously the forced induction cars are gonna want higher octane fuel to eliminate detonation. But since N/A rotaries have lower compression ratios there's no need for higher octane.

That should clear things up

I said it looks like it needed it and asked about it. I didn't say that I could tell by looking that it HAD to have a lapping.
