engine swap...gotta do it now! any one with a 12A to 13B conversion?
I blew my engine up....cracked the rear rotor housing, so now i have no choice but to do an engine swap. I want to put the 13 B in it, but im not sure what my options are as far as carb/EFI. The 13B is from an 86. Any suggestions on how to do it? I am working on a tight budget. The engine doesnt have the wiring harness, but i do have a friend with a stand alone fuel management system. What would you guys suggest as far as the wiring harness goes? i could get a harness off a second gen if it comes out easily. Would a carb be easier? if so what would you suggest? would my nikki carb work? i need help came i need my car back soon.
well I've got a s5 N/A 13b in my car....
Anyway you are going to need to use your 12a front cover, and you are going to also need to get the racing beat 12a-13b adapter mount. You are also going to need a GSL-SE oil pan.
The rest depends if you wanna go carb or EFI. If you wanna go carb, you are going to need to get something like a racinbeat manifold and a holley or webber carb.
If you want EFI you have two choices. You can wire up a standalone efi controller like a haltech. Or you can keep the stock efi system from the 86. This is what I did, if you want more info on this let me know, and XI can tell you roughly what you need to. Your going to find alot of info saying that keeping the stock efi is difficult but trust me, its easy man.

put a weber on the intake, its much easier to hook up with the carb, and its a much cleaner looking setup too!
swap over your 12a front cover and dizzy and get a SE oil pan and pickup. if you want to hook up the oil injection properly you will also need a SE front engine cover .... its a easy conversion
and slot the engine mount to fit the 13B...

the GSL-SE crossmember will not work. Were talking about the one that actually bolts to the front cover right? The GSL-SE chassis actually has its motor mounts 20mm further foward. You need the Racing beat adapter.
Also the GSL-SE and the 12a oil pickup are the same.
You do not need the GSL-SE front cover, any 12a one will work fine. I have a 12a front cover on my motor and I even bolted the S5 electric OMP up to it and it works fine.

If you're going to go through all this trouble, might i suggest a TII swap?

CARB BABY!!!! i'm using a holley. doing almost the exact same swap only my motor is an s5. i'll let you know how it comes. shouldn't be hard. just got all my pieces in yesterday! i went with the racing beat intake manfiold for the holley, a holley 650 double pumper (you can probably use less cfm), 12a front cover, dizzy, and oil pick-up; exedy performance clutch (13b clutch, not 12a), using the stock 12a tranny, holley blue fuel pump, gsl-se oil pan, and uhhhh i think that's it! hahahahaha go carb!*edit* oh yea, you will need the injector plugs as well!
i decided im going to keep it efi, just cause i think ill have less problems with it (not putting it in, i know it will be a bitch) but that way i get rid of the choke and stuff. Im putting in the N/A 13B cause i have one, i wish i had a turbo II if i did i'd be putting it in. lol
well, i think this'll be a fun project. the engine needs to be rebuilt, so im going to be learning a whole lot in the next few days. Im tryting to get ported rotor housings...with the 13b, ported, with intake, header, and my current exhaust think i could have 200 hp or close?
i went from a 84 gsl-se engine to a 88 n/a engine. i wish i had made it carbed b/c it would have been a lot less pain. but i'm glad after the 3 months of work that i kept it efi b/c i learned a **** load about my engine. it really didn't cost me a thing to keep it efi. i just needed to buy ijector plugs to plug up the secondarys

just slot it ... it works fine.
