Engine Stand for rebuild

Engine Stand for rebuild

So everybody says an engine stand makes life easier. I have one, some people say you need an adapter and some people say you dont,

My question is what do you actually bolt to? I had though could bolt to tranny side but thats where you start dismantling the engine sooo, any thoughts?

I bolted my engine adapter to the studs that use to hold the A/C compressor mount. This is on the dizzy side of the engine on the front plate.

I pull the AC/PS bracket studs on the front iron, then use long bolts to go through the arms of the stand. 2 arms will hold the engine, use the 2 sloted holes in the head flange of the stand to center the engine.

Yeah use a stand and adapter. Got my adapter from Dan Atkins at Atkinsrotary.com. This thing is thick! His includes the hardware to mount the adapter. If your car has AC just take the compressor and bracket off and use the harware to mount the motor to the stand. Mine is still on the stand if you need pictures

heres my t2 on a 750pound engine stand dont need any special adapter plates...
still need to adjust it so its more center. i might try the angle slots instead of the parallel bearing grease helps alot on the friction area of the stand

i wanted a hand crank stand but i found there worth a couple grands so that idea went down the tubes

it can be a little hard get the pin in sometimes.

If you notice, Chris has his arms bolted through the straight slots. Us the other pair of slanted slots, the engine will center and balance better, making it much easier to rotate.

I like how I set the arms up on mine. I had to notch the head for the coolant tube position of 12As.
