Engine Problem

I just bought a series 1 1980 rx7, it has a 13b carbureted motor in it.
The engine will not start properly. The engine turns over alright when i try to start it. I can only get it to run if i pull the spark plugs out and put a bit of oil in each hole.
Could the engine be blown?
Lost its compression?
Or could there be something wrong with the ignition?

upgrade you engine grounds, then replace the spark plugs, make sure you have fresh gas in there, and then crank away.
