Unhappy Engine hesitates

My '83 RX7 engine hesitates when it starts to accelerate from a stop. Idle is also erratic but doesn't stall. Plugs and wires are new. Any ideas as to what could be causing the problem? Thanks.

Cheak to see if the accelerator pump diaphram is leaking fuel. If so, there's your trouble.

with the engine off, pull the air filter
look down the throat of the carb, then work the throttle by hand
look and see if you see the accelerator pump shoot jets of liquid gas down the throat.
see if the shots are even.

_____________

look for vacuum leaks (hoses cracked or broken or fallen off)

Check for vacuum leaks.

Is the car stock?
Rats nest removed?

Check out the FAQ. There is a ton of info about the normal carb and drivability issues for these cars.

Your problems may be in the direction of vacuum leak(s)
As XLR8 posts.

The posts I left there will detail one specific cause that could lead to your problem, but more importantly follow the process of how to compartmentalize a system in question so you can find the source of the fault.
